Sex Discrimination

Is it just me or does anybody else feel aggrieved that a woman in the UAE requires a Letter of No Objection from her husband in order to take driving lessons. Another example of the country still belonging in the Middle Ages whilst striving to create the impression of being modern.

I wasn't aware of that, but then I don't know many women who don't actually drive. They say you have to have a no objection letter to open a bank account as well, but I didn't need one. It is so degrading I have to say.

I had to take a note from my hubby saying that he was happy for me to act on his behalf to sort out the phone/intarweb! I find it hillarious because it's so tragic. I might get him to write a "I give permission for my wife to do whatever the heck she wants" card for me to keep as a souvenir...

is that right? I'm thinking of putting mrs spugsy on my visa soonish so she can change jobs as her company simply don't give NOCs to anyone for any reason.

Re: Sex Discrimination

If you are a woman on her own visa you don't need to get your husband's permission to do anything. Just your employers.

All bloody stupid & chauvinistic.

Well Lionheart, you know from experience from your time in Saudi - women being allowed to drive - albeit with a letter of no objection - is a huge step forward from the Magic Kingdom!

Not that I have learnt yet.
