I watch with interest for Boydy's opinion after his first week in Utopia. So far he is doing well - furnished accom, near work, no driving . Things to look forward to
Getting visa
Getting driving license
Finding affordable accomodation - probably the hardest bit!!!
Driving - not nice for newcomers
Trying to find places !!! nightmare!!!
Good luck 101!

Oh come on....it's not all that bad...and even me, being a woman and all that with no sense of direction, I find it very easy to find my way around Dubai.
As for getting a driving license...that doesn't take more than an hour at most.

I know people who were out there and have an idea of what's to come (which reminds me I need to pick up my 7 sheets of passport photos today) and what to expect.
I just expect it to be different, I hate the thought of everything being the same throughout my life: born, live, die in the same street. hmm drifting into the LJ thread I think.
Yeah I'll be frazzled but I'm sure you lot will be here to help if I struggle, and when it gets really bad I'll go to the pub!

It's only available from a few top hotels at the mo, and only between certain hours.
good idea though, hope it takes off, however, knowing the standard of driving here in the dusty city, i'm not sure whether i'd want any tom, dick or harry (translate as needs be) driving my prized lambo around.
if I had one!

We spent a year trying to obtain the No Objection Certificate from RTA. Finally it came thrugh at the end of 2006. We work with alot of the hotels in Dubai. However, you can avail the service by calling the call centre on 04-2688797. We wil be 24/7 next month. We do have over 50 driver today.
I would recommend you book in advance. If you are confirmed to go out for the night, try and book in the afternoon. Our call centre is 24/7. this allows us to organise accordingly. Most of our callers call in and request a driver in an hour and we have been successful in providing that.
We have had a great response over the past 2 months.
At the end of the day, our aim is to reduce the number of accidents in dubai, and surprisingly its probably the highest rate compared to otgher parts of the world (ironically being a Zero tolerant country)
Hope you try the service.
