Re: Rugby in Dubai
I'll send you some more stuff about the girls later........
.....but in the meantime, and assuming you play the intelligent code (i.e. union), because you won't find the other garbage out here, there is a VERY active playing and social scene.
The hard grounds (dry weather, you see...??) lend themselves to some decent styles of play and the standard is mostly OK (a lot of expats from UK, RSA, Aust and NZ, mostly) who have played a bit at home.
You play Premier standard? Which Premier exactly? Sydney? (I'm thinking Manly etc)......... come to think of it, the girls are thinking 'manly' too, but that's not important right now........ if you have played or still play at that level you'll have a great time here - it will be competitive, but you'll be at the top of the pile.
Join the Exiles - they are the best-organised, and will emerge from a rather unfortunate situation with their ground (see "Country Club closure" messages elsewhere here) to rise again at a new ground.
Post a few more messages and you become eligible to send/receive private messages (the girls will appreciate that too), so I can send you some more stuff. I played at Bedford and Wasps in the UK when I was younger (and yes, girls, I've heard all the jokes about my age, so don't bother.....), and have been managing the Arabian Gulf Under-19s, but have just relocated to Saudi where I'm going to be developing youth rugby among the local kids who are enthusiastic beyond belief.
I have the Exiles contact numbers - get in touch. And good luck.
Now then - can we discuss Andre Watson's refereeing in the 2003 RWC Final? What a prat.......
