So unless you have very niche skills, do not expect a massive expat salary.

Like you said, best thing to do is pop out for a holiday and see what you think.

I wish you all the best in 2005

1. Both my wife and myself enter Dubai on a 2 month visit visa.
2. Rent accomodation while looking for work in the IT field.
3. Hopefully find work (?!?!) who are willing to sponsor me (and maybe pay my accomodation!!)
4. Sponsor my wife to stay in the country once the company have sponsored me.
5. Stay in Dubai for as long as Im working (current plan around 3-4 years).
6. If we decide to have a child while we are there, add the child to my British passport, or create the child a new UK passport.

Do my plans seem realistic and is this the way to go??
Anything I should know about before taking the plunge?? We are looking to visit Dubai later this year (later in 2005) for a general holiday, and if all goes well and we like the area etc, look to relocate early 2006.

Any comments are most welcome.

Happy Xmas and New year to you all.

realistic.....don't set ur sites too high.....even better secure a job before u get here.....so many are chasing so few jobs and IT experience is universal...who demands the highest wage, U or an IT specialist from Pakistan who may speak the local lingo.... just a few words of caution.

merry xmas and welcome onboard.

Well as most of you know I've been here for almost 2 months now and not had a single bloody lead!! The scene is rather shite at the moment, it looks like it'll pick up within the next few months but my advise is unless you already have a job here or are transferring within a company you'll have to spend around 3 months here to build up contacts, doing the job hunting thing etc, etc. It's all about networking in this place..

Is it possible to send 3 months looking for work? I thought the maximum visit visa allowance was 2 months?

Question Re: Relocation Plans?! Please check my plans for me!!

Hi Ifti,

I am presently working in IT in Dubai. In terms of your plan it's contingent on many factors. But to be honest with you this isnt the most friendly place in the world. You have a UK passport, but are you Caucasian ? This isnt something I care about, but it could make all the difference when you go looking for a job.

Thanks,

David

Hi
My background is Pakistani, but was born, raised and lived all my life in the UK - but yep ur right - I know having a pakistani family etc I may hit some trouble.
To be honest you guys have definitely made me open my eyes a little more. I think I'll take a holiday to Dubai some time next year and take things from there, rather then rushing into things. That way I know I still have a secure job here to come back to.
Thanks again for all your input guys. Its really been very helpful and I really appreciate it.
