rents are sky high, and you need to pay 1 year in advance...
you may want to rethink!!!

Mick as advised in that trade you have no chance of making enough money to live in Duabi, not like UK where plasterers are like gold dust, your better thinking of Oz

I had my villa in Dubai re-decorated recently (2 coats Caparol emulsion, all materials, labour, disposal and all transport provided by the decorating company).
In the UK as a main contractor I was paying subbies around £6 - £8 per m2 for 2 coats emulsion. Over here I paid £2.40 all in per m2. This rate also included a 'freebie' of hacking off around 3m2 of defective plastering and re-plastering that area. The standard of preparation was superb, everything was masked, minor cracks raked out and filled, and all areas cleaned once finished.
I am in the construction industry (Commercial Project Manager) and all I can say is that Dubai is ok for desk bound professionals, if you are a trade specialist (decorator, plasterer, plumber, electrician, A/C engineer etc) then life would be impossible for a western expat as there are so many low paid workers willing to do those jobs (they would be on around AED10/20 per hour, as would you be if you decide to come over).
This is not good news for you and your dream of coming to Dubai but I hope it allows you to consider other overseas oportunities.

Mick, these people are all correct. I am also from a trades background, but supervisory/managerial, and Mr Project Manager is spot on. You will not make any real bucks here unless you're in management. I'm staying over here with my brother (who's been here 12 years) and I"m scouting, but finding it very difficult. UK? yes. Aus? yes. Here? Suits only.

wait until the rain stops and then book your flight; plenty of flood damaged places here now
