Default Oman, Muscat secondary schools & fees

Can my teen daughter & I survive in Muscat on 2000 OmaniR per month.
I have to pay school fees, not negotiable.
Brit & US schools look too expensive.
Can you suggest affordable (reasonably western) secondary schools or perhaps home-schooling by someone is possible?
Is 2 bed appartment affordable (400) in the Wave or other acceptable area?
As a widower, can I find occasional 'au pair' help?
Prefer to work than do nothing even though not saving much.
I did several months in Saudi years ago and expect slightly less arrogance in Oman.
Any advice appreciated.
