Can anyone recommend a nice hotel to go to for 2 families at Christmas time in Oman please - i intend to drive from Dubai (2 families) and am looking for somewhere nice, with snorkelling / diving spots.
I hear Salalah is nice....

Are you from Whitby.
I have never been to salalah but it would be quite a drive and the empty quarter does exactly what it says on the tin. In muscat you could try the dive centre which has chalets on the beach in a nice private cove and all the usual diving related fun their websits is www.diveoman.com.om if you fancy a splurge and me and the family were there last christmas you cant go wrong with the shangri la. you can do pretty much anything diving related there or drive to the dive centre from there and you will proably save money. it is a five minute drive.

I stayed at the Dive Centre last month and had a really nice time, its a fairly quiet bay and you can snorkel, dive, kayak and any other water realted/beach activity... You can go for a treat at the shangri la, as the food gets a bit samey after a few days... Great spot though and its nice to be away from hustle and bustle of Muscat but still only 10 minute drive away...

Re: Oman for Christmas?
Doesn't the global recession and fears of redundancy make planning holidays so far in advance somewhat risky?

What Global recession? What fears of redundancy? Remember, you are in Dubai!! We have no time for harbingers of doom such as yourself.....
