Default No car - where is realistically liveable?

Hi everyone

despite trying to refrain from househunting, i cant stop myself! i am looking for somewhere in march, but want to get a firmer idea of realistic places I can live in.

I will be working in JLT but wont be driving a car. I have a budget of up to 72000aed pa inc all bills etc for accommodation (up to 6000aed a month). I am after 1 bed flat.

I was looking at discovery gardens? is this any good? JLT and the marina have options but they are quite small. Is there anywhere else you might recommend as a good, affordable fun place to live that I can still get to JLT within a 60 min commute on public transport?

THANKS x

60min commute? Anywhere near the metro line.

You should be able to find a place in JLT that's a decent size for that easily. Don't limit yourself to one tower/area as some towers are a joke, while others are really good.

Do you know what tower/cluster you'll be working in?

hi, i will be working in cluster c. i'm more than sure i'll find somewhere in the marina or JLT - however on looking at property finder etc, it was some of the other areas around JLT that intregued me. However, with not having a car, I wondered if it's actually possible to get from say Discovery Gardens to JLT every day.

At the moment, i live and work in London and my daily commute is about an hour door to door.

I guess it's through talking to people you know really which areas are commutable, or nicer to live with, or better left. So, any opinions, good/bad/indifference are def welcome!

Thanks again

With 60 minutes commute you can live anywhere in Dubai really, but why would you want to sit on a bus or the metro for that length of time?.
The Marina/jbr area is good, lots of bars and shops within walking distance.

Its simple, live in JLT. With that budget you'll be able to find a good 1-bed, and won't have the hassle or expense of commuting. You might find something in Marina, which you might prefer--and if your office is close to one of the 2 Metro stations serving Marina/JLT and you find something in Marina close to the Metro station, your "commute" will be a doddle.

Ok, not everyone likes JLT/Marina, but many people do and it certainly isn't bad in any way. Do it for the first year, then decide if you want to be elsewhere.

I'd be wary of Disco: some bad reports about utilities and tenants (200 Afghans to a flat), and unless you're near SZR then access is a nightmare. Plus the Metro is a fair walk from any accommodation, certainly too far to contemplate in the summer.

thanks so much! i think JLT/Marina are certainly becoming the most obvious choices for year one. Easy commutes are always a winner. The London commute is ridiculous at the moment, its so cold and the trains are constantly late - the latest excuse we had was "slippery rain" lols!

Also try Barsha 1, or Tecom. You'll be able to get bigger apartments, and both have apartments close to the Metro.

How long does it take to acclimatize to the weather? Is it warm in January?
