New Dress Code rules for Dubai?

Re: New Dress Code rules for Dubai?
Sorry weescot - I never meant to infer that you would ever wear such an outfit - I was referring to some of the women I often see prancing around the Mall of the Emirates. I can't believe another Brit took issue with what you were wearing? I hope you told them where to go!
Speaking objectively, why can a Brit not have a word in another Brit's ear if they have reason to believe that person is dressed inappropriately.
While not born in the UK I s'pose I am more British than anything else and I have in the past told a Brit she was dressed inappropriately.

but I have always adviced people that come to visit what to bring along to wear...
And I do wonder if it's just ignorance in most cases, or that they just think they should be able to wear whatever the hell they like...

It is different to "have a word in someone's ear" than to publicly admonish someone on their apparel. I agree that if you have friends coming to visit then it is a good idea to advise them on what is appropriate, but it is not your place to play community police officer...

How do you know if it is offending a local? Interpretation of what may offend a local is all too subjective in my view with so many different cultures here. After this incident I actually took advice from several Emiratis. They set me straight on what is and is not offensive. One was actually mortified a "foreigner" had approached me in this way in a public place. "It is not her place". No easy answer - except I won't be wearing shorts of any length to the mall again!
It wasn't really difficult tbh Weescot-went with one of our designers' wives
to collect kids from school- British Curriculum but many, many nationalities
including Emiratis. It was during Ramadan and I saw this silly bint in a strapless top and pelmet waiting to collect her kids.It was just too much!
Not as if she didn't know about Ramadan either given they apparently change class times to suit fasting etc.
I simply asked her if she thought she was dressed appropo.....
To me it was as if she didn't give a monkeys and that annoyed me.
Hey ho.....
I know I know, you find it incredible to think moi could be so gobby

Oh yeah - I can definitely identify with this. I was in MoE the other day at Borders and there was a middle aged, respectable looking man, with his twelve year old son. With them is what I can only describe as one of cheapest looking hookers I have ever seen in a skin tight flourescent pink mini bandage dress with 6 inch platforms. It was hard to tell if she was the wife/mother, a rent-a-bride or a prossie in that ensemble (perhaps all three?) Everyone of all ages and races were looking her up and down and cracking up with laughter - how embarrasing.
