Thanks guys, appreciate the advice.

We do have a mortgage in the UK but this doesn't cost us much per month, and we are planning on renting it out so we'll have some additional income from that.

I do want to sample some Friday brunches but we won't be going crazy.

Thanks for the advice.

Cheers

What should I be looking at PA?

Then you need to ensure you stay here long enough to not have any UK tax liabilities on your overseas income on your return and make sure you don't breach any HMRC rules. It's not quite as simple as moving overseas and not paying any more UK tax...

Ok thanks, can you explain further?

We intend on staying in Dubai long term. I will take a good look on the HMRC site and try and work it out.

Thanks

Meow is the best port of call, there is loads available when you search but my understanding is the fundamentals;

Stay out the UK for an entire tax year (move here tomorrow and you'll need to be here until at least April/May 2014) at least).

Be prepared to get bottom-rogered a bit on your property in the UK and the rental income. I'm sure Meow has mentioned this might be chaning?

Yes, but a full year doesn't necessarily exempt a person from paying income tax on partial years out.

UK rental income is taxable but each person has a personal allowance of GBP 8,105 so only has to pay tax on income arising in the UK above that amount (assuming they are non-resident for tax purposes).

What would make someone exempt from that?

Strictly speaking and ignoring concessions, five tax years non-resident.

No point in moving here if you don't have some fun. You can find decent all in brunches for AED 300 a head, but the cost often comes afterwards when you go on somewhere else and carry on drinking for another six hours and spend three times as much again...

exactly

spent 300 dibs on a round at Pearls and Caviar recently. Night started quite 'thriftily' with dinner at Hoi An using entertainer vouchers
