Cautious

I've been approached about a position within my company which will require me moving to Bahrain and working between Bahrain and Saudi. If I take up this position, it will mean myself and my girlfriend moving to Bahrain for a minimum of two years. We've visited Dubai in the summer, and understand that Bahrain is not quite the same, but is fairly liberal (for the Middle East) in regards to westerners. Does anyone have any advice/recommendations for us before we commit to a move? My main concern is the current security situation - we only know what we see in papers over in the UK which may/may not be a true reflection of what Bahrain is like? Also my girfriend is originally from a hotel management background, but has worked in IT sales for the last 5 years - could she expect to find work in Bahrain?
