Re: Lack of Clothes - again
Back to topic so to speak, what i think is worrying about the #UAEdresscode on twitter is that the owners of the hash tag suggested yesterday that if they "perceive" a tweet mentioning them to be offensive, they will report it, and the tweeter, to Al Ameen service.
Meow had better watch out.... |

Meow had better watch out.... Essentially I suggested that we didn't need a law and that tolerance and lack of hatred would go a long way. In return I was accused by a local chap of hating the UAE and 'bashing the host country'. Hardly 'hatred' and he s so very wrong. He is free to report me (although for what???), but I have copies of what he said to me. Silly boy. |

You saw the accusations that chap made? I suggested they they were defamatory and unsubstantiated and oddly enough he has now deleted them.

As usual in the National the voice of Emirati reason speaks:- http://www.thenational.ae/lifestyle/...t-common-sense And an interesting first para on why Arabs (and other Eastern expats) won't ever say no, or admit they don't know something. It's crucially important in our region to "save face" and not offend others. People dealing with Arabs need to know that we try, even in straight-forward business dealings, to avoid saying "no". This is not because the word does not exist in our vocabulary, but because we feel that rejecting an idea or a suggestion may cause offence. And since we would not like to be treated that way ourselves, we do our best not to offend others. |

I did yes, you're a UAE hater that lives among us. They really couldn't be any further wrong could they.

There are plenty of Emiratis with a brain who don't want a law, just some common sense. |

No it is not "abnormal". There are people EVERYWHERE who do not participate in above mentioned activities. And yes, that does includes WESTERN people . BUT, to say that people with "your point of view" (although I'd like to call it mindset) generally do not participate in above mentioned activities, is a joke. As simple as that.
And do not twist my words...I've had better people than you try that and fail. |

Precisely my point, it's abnormal now when somebody doesn't drink, take part in debauchery type activities and doesn't want to read a paper called the Sun as mentioned by another poster who said he wanted to know my idea of 'fun' You have your way, I'll happily have mine... |

You really need to know your facts about a subject before issuing a blanket statement on something you have very little knowledge on. Reading the Daily Mail and The Sun doesn't count either. It is you folks that really need your brains washed so please lift the veils from your hearts and minds. |

Point being, if you watch all that kind of stuff implicity or explicitly, through films, lads mags or nude 'art', then the whole uae dress issue will be seen to be way over the top as your standards of modesty are different. I have given a different side to the argument and have said what is needed from another perspective. http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/nuba/hd_nuba.htm |

Conversely, it implies that all non-muslims share the defining feature of clubbing and free sex. Where did you find this idea? Afghanistan? |

May be I am wrong, but you come across as an old person who is not aware of the massive decline in moral values among young generation, here is an example of what my original post was on about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wN5Q3Dhqwjk (didn't bother to spell check, so those bord-in-the-desert guys/girls are welcome to have ago) |

I have been trying very hard to stick to the topic and not get nuddged aside into side issues, but it seems that I am fighting a losing battle, so, the answer to your question is, no.. Afghanis are not into ethics, they know bug*** all about what goes on in the west, their speciality is defeating super powers and they are damn good at it.

yes, they are the next superpower right? You think the defining feature of all non-muslims is free sex and clubbing. The pointless video you brought up shows that this is not the case, and that there are some people who aren't into that. Moral decline among the young? By any account, the young are at the forefront of anti-war, anti-racism, anti globalisation, vegetarianism, anti-vivisection, anti discrimination movements everywhere in the west. But let me guess: these things have nothing to do with morals, right? |
