Default Job offer Abu Dhabi

Hi folks,

currently working in the banking industry in London as a credit risk modeler. I got 12 years of experience; married and no kid yet. My current based salary is £101K.

I got the following an offer from a Abu Dhabi based bank:

Basic Salary: AED 26k
General allowance: AED 26k
Educational allowance: AED 25k per year
Relocation Package: AED 52k
Air Fare: AED 15k per person per year
+ PMI for both of us.
+ Variable pay.

quick question: I guess the variable is a % of the base salary (and not the monthly total) isn’t?

Based on my research I feel the offer is a good one. But I would like to have your opinion guys…did I miss something?

Anyone working for ADBC around? What does variable pay look like in term of % of base salary?

Seems decent. Push for higher basic where you can as your final "pension payment" at end of service is calculated off basic, not total salary.

Education allowance is irrelevant if you have no children. But if you did have children, be aware that 25k won't even cover nursery fees. By primary school you're looking at around 50k/year in a cheaper British school. Also check what age educational allowance applies from - in my case for instance it only applies from age 3, so if you and spouse both work and need childcare, it won't be covered for first 3 years.
?
Check whether the general allowance includes a housing component and if so, whether that housing component is "up to" a certain limit dependent on your tenancy contract, or is paid regardless.ie are there any strings attached to the general allowance and if so what are they?

Also check which health insurance policy they would give you as there's a wide range from (at the top end) basically everything covered included discretionary holiday vaccinations down to having to pay a share of the costs on pretty much everything.

Also worth asking about flexible working options as more and more companies are starting to offer this (x days from home per month - some now even offer a "work from anywhere in the world for up to 30 days a year" deal).

It’s not a terrible package but if you are coming from a £100k+ UK basic then it’s not huge uplift either ….. as has been mentioned explore the housing aspect and particularly explore medical insurance in detail.
