How negotiable are Doha compound rents
Hello
We are relocating to Doha in the next two months. Our package includes a housing allowance. We are currently located in Riyadh where housing is provided for us. Having done a lot of research on Doha I have found that a common theme is that there is currently an oversupply of housing. We will be looking for a compound in easy reach of British schools, such as Al Fardan or Beverly Hills. My question is, is there any room for negotiation on rents on such compounds or are they fixed? From your experiences which are the best agents to use and should we expect to pay them commission?
Thanks

Both myself and my friend have just taken Villas. I got my rent down from 13 to 11 a month, he got 13 months instead of 12. The agents wanted 1/2 a month commission I paid them 3k.

That sounds promising. Which agent did you use?

You are better to go to the compounds and ask security, you can often deal direct with a landlord then and save yourself a few quid. I have the card of the guy I used at home. Will PM number tomorrow

There are some massive out-of-town developments coming onstream in Al Wakra and Barwa Village/ City, which are dragging down rent prices in the city. I'd definately haggle for a better deal.
Remember to ask for extras like uncashed cheque deposit, extra parking space, cleaning/ servicing, Kahramaa bills included (Water/ Elec.), all worth asking for.
The Kahramaa inclusion is well worth it, otherwise you'll need to open an account yourself which involves loads of hassle, deposits and the like. Best avoided.
