We actually pay a pretty low rent by most people's standards. Large 2 bed apartment in Deira, pool, gym, underground parking etc - AED 68,000 pa.

I sold a property in the UK in November & am looking at buying another.

Not where I lived in the Uk ???

My Uk mortgage is 1400K per month and we only get 800 back what with letting fees and rent.

DH gets a cr@p wage and then the rest is mobile phone and housing/expenses etc. So really its just a wage and he pays out everything himself from that!

I think you are forgetting the high tax rate in the UK!

I think nowadays, housing allowances are just housing subsidies.

If we had to pay out of pocket for anything we wouldn't be here.
We are here for the money, not the lifestyle(Doha -lifestyle...lol!)
our company gave us a monthly allowance for housing,(some people were known to profit from that amount) now they are taking that away(because they found out that people were making profit) and provide housing......stupid really, their greed is biting them in the arse, now people are moving to much more expensive villas that the company provide!

I bet you are paying about 1400 quid a month in rent here though?? We are paying nearly a grand a month for this apartment - that would go along way on a nice house in my neck of the woods

Depends where you're from though. A grand won't get you that much if youre from Surrey or Knightsbridge.
