Default Housing Allowances

Just of 'curiosity killed the cat' - do any of you have to pay towards your housing allowance? or do you just get a lump sum and have to go away and do all your own figures etc? I wonder how many people are subsidising their housing allowances??

We get an "allowance" which is part of our package. It doesn't cover my rent, and I heard something shocking about a guy who left our company recently: He left because the boss found out he was living in a portacabin for 2k a month and deducted the rest of the "allowance" from his salary.

the day i have to pay my own bills in this place is the day im offski TBH.

the oil/gas sector is booming so its a bit of an employee's market

No subsidies at all. I'm self-employed so I get absolutely nothing from the firm that I work with here.

we did get 85 - then it was upped last march to 120 - another 35 basically. When the bonuses were supposed to come this year we were shafted and then told that we had had 35k already!!!! FFS!

You aren't alone, I know alot of people who are in that same position. Is it worth your while to pay so much rent?? The amount of money we pay out in rent to could pay off a great home in UK.

No, a proper portacabin, like they put on construction sites, but instead of an office interior, it's got a bed.
