Is it a good package? (Doha)
Hello
I am considering a job position (consultant) in Doha. The package includes:
- basic salary of QAR 20,000/month
- housing allowance of QAR 8,000/month
- transportation fee of QAR 1,200 /month.
(+ medical insurance)
I have 5 years of experience.
Do you think I should accept?
What is the cost of living there? Will I be able to save some money?
Would I be in position to lease a car for QAR 1,200/mnth
Thks,

The term ' consultant ' is a bit vague , could you be a bit more specific is it recruitment , engineering , HR ?
Also is it a single or married status conntract .

thank you for your answer.
It is a competitive intelligence consultant position and for a single status.

It seems like an average package . 8000 QAR will get you a decent 2 bedroom apartment in an average area or a smaller 1 bedroom apartment in West Bay.
Cost of living here is very high , take 300 QAR for internet , 500 QAR for a weekly shop and anything from 250-600 QAR for utilities.
You'll be able to hire an entry level small car for around 1200-1500 QAR and fuel is a negligible cost here.
Going out and socialising here is expensive as well , anywhere that's decent you'll pay a very high premium .
My advice would be to get The Explorer Book on Qatar , it has a lot of very very good information in it and will give you a good decent overview of the place also look on www.timeoutdoha.com and www.qatarhappening.com
Also bear in mind Qatar isn't Dubai or Abu Dhabi , things are a lot more strict and conservative here and can be pretty claustrophobic for some people.
Good Luck

I am sure you have come across them...bright faced, always smiling, having total disregard for the pathetic state of things...blissfully enjoying the "different culture".
There were times I envied them.....but, obviously not anymore!!

Yep, and they tend to be especially prevalent on Thursday and Friday evenings, in varying states of dishevellment. Anybody who's not pissed and is bright faced, smiling etc etc needs a good punch up the bracket.
