Four years!

Re: Four years!
Sorry, but than over reaction. The percentage of people stopped coming into Dubai is very small indeed.
Perhaps you friends should just stay off the drugs for a week before coming out?

Re: Four years!
I agree with your second sentence but unlikely to change their minds. Probably paranoia.

Re: Four years!
One fallout from all this...
Two of my friends from the UK were going to come out for a week's holiday in March, but they have now cancelled having been scared off from coming to Dubai, because of the minute 0.003 g speck on the reported guy's shoe. They don't like the possibility of detention (awaiting negative urine test results - up to 6 weeks) due to, say, innocent treading on substances at their friends' houses or night clubs.

What a weird thing to post-you are a strange one MacScot. As Fairydust suggested-new gear(oops sorry bad pun)new clothes.Maybe their local Constabulary could gift them these forensic boilersuit thingys.........or is that cart before the horse?(4 legged one I mean)....
How on earth could the powers that be analyse 0.003g-bearing in mind they split the substance.Miniscule!! to begin with

Re: Four years!
O.003 g is not miniscule - it is huge! Analytical detection limits for modern detection equipment are in the nanogram range (i.e., 1 billionth of a gram). Current detection limits are as low as 0.0000000050 g.

Re: Four years!
I know of cases where people have been charged (and it's clearly written on the police documents) with bringing in "0.00g" of a banned substance......
..... the detectors picked up the traces but there wasn't enough to register on the weighing equipment.
Dubai will have to start distinguishing between traces and usable/sellable amounts - or the tourist industry on which its future depends will collapse.
Ask any of your UK-based friends who have seen the recent press coverage if they still fancy coming to Dubai on holiday - I know of a number who are saying 'no'.....

Having been watching the case of Cat Le-Huy closely, you have to wonder. And then there's the guy caught with the poppy seeds... from eating a roll at Heathrow...

So true. Two of my friends are now not coming on holiday to Dubai (see original post on page 6 of the posts on this topic). This is the fallout..

Re: Four years!
What about money, ie well over half the notes in circulation in the UK and Europe have traces of cocaine on them, does that mean that everyone carrying Euros or stirling should be banged up for 4 yrs as well...
This is an utter joke and they had better start to work out a solution or they can kiss their 20 million tourist target goodbye.
