Re: E-gate card
This is all a lot of good information, thanks for posting! I have an 8am flight and will arrive at the airport 6am, and I was worried everything would be closed! My company is arranging a work visa, do I need that for the e-gate pass? I'll have to wait until I come back in Mid-November if so.

Some pointers when using your E-gate card (based on experience):
1. Remember to hold your card over the card reader screening area of the gate for a few seconds...not just a quick or fleeting hold over the screen..otherwise the E-gate first barrier won't open.
I have seen quite a few people held up at the e-gates and talking to staff saying their card is not working when it actually is ! They shout out in my direction saying "He's got through, OK !" I usually yell back "hold your card on for a few seconds !"
2. Forgotten which finger you originally signed up with ? ...don't worry as once inside the first E-gate barrier, the monitor tells you which finger to use.
Happy e-gating !

Some other tips:
- In Dubai arrivals at T1, head to the left bank arrivals - it's usually quieter
- In Sharjah, DO NOT LOSE YOUR EGATE RECEIPT - they won't let you board the plane / leave the passport control area without it
- In Abu Dhabi, the receipt seems useless
