Hi, firstly apologies for bringing up this old thread.

To all the guys in Bahrain, I am in London on hols, and have received a call from one of my employees today saying that he has heard numerous rumours that on the last day of Eid it is going to kick off in a big way in Bahrain, I am due to fly back with my son next Thursday, but my employee was told again last night by some persian friends, that they are going to really go for it and have been preparing during Ramadam, have you guys heard anything along these lines? He said their is definately more police on the streets and his area is pretty much in a curfew again of a night time.

Thanks.

Hi Mark

hope the holly in London is going well with all your suvern beer and jellied eels etc
Loads of rumours going around and that is it. lots of rumours. Some of the rumours say that some of the Shias are being told to respect Eid with no protests whilst some rumours say that everyone must not buy bright new clothes as is Eid tradition and instead they must buy black in preparation for marches to the pearl intersection during Eid.

There has definitely been an increase in violence in the villages and a couple of days ago, allegedly, a few Asian shop keepers got stabbed in the head with scissors in one of the villages. There has been mither in Saar near the border crossing with Janibiyah and there was debris all over the road early Saturday morning where a mini riot-ett had been going on. Karanah where it all kicked off last time is a little bit excitable.

Couple of policemen have suffered injuries as results of fun size incidents in Sitra

No idea about life over in Juffair mate but its probably life as normal.

Overall no disturbance to expat life so nothing to worry about. Get on the plane and come back. You need to be here to flog me your Lexus for 500 bhd anyway

So to answer the question; is it likely to kick off during Eid? Probably, but the rumours are one thing and what might or might not happen is something else entirely...

Anyway I'm happy to have left.

We had about a week of summer weather somewhere in between but heaps and heaps of rain over the last cpl months. Thinking of risking the Notting Hill carnival today or tomorrowLets hope nothing kicks off here

Something will kick off Norsky. Of course it doesnt take much to excite the locals so once a minor rumour kicks off then it gains an energy all of its own regardless of the official messages out there.

How bad it will be is another thing and of course Amwaj and Juffair will be totally unaffected so its JJs for a beer

Your ex villa has been taken by a family relocating to the green zone from Buddaiya just to be on the safe side.

Police presence is very relaxed. The roadblock at Geant is still there but is now unmanned so its just a chicane for the locals. Minor presence at the airport access roads causing no disruption. A lot of tanks moving on transporters around Riffa and Awali when there today but that looked just like normal military movements (they were Bahraini and not Saudi)

Reckon you made a good move to DXB

Lol I did get some last year but had no aptitude really. I have promised myself that I will go back when the weather cools for another go. I reckon if I aim for someones knee caps then I may actually land the club on his head.

There are 5 other villas free but you did have perhaps the best villa on the compound given the size of the garden and position etc and obviously someone else did. Have a decent Guiness and a donner kebab for me

Hi Tock,
thanks for the info, and yes I also was told about the Indians being attacked, anyway their is nothing on the brit embassy web site in Bahrain about trouble, but that means nothing as the only time we know if it is going off again they will have closed up and gone home like last time
But this is on the US Embassy web site.
I am not taking any chances this time and have learnt from past experiences, I am travelling back on my own, and have cancelled my son's flight until I know for sure it is safe for him.
From 29 August through 2 September, demonstration activity is likely to increase, particularly during hours of darkness. In addition, the following specific demonstration information is provided:
On Tuesday, 30 August, unauthorized demonstrations are likely to occur in Sanabis, Daih, Karbabad, and Hamad Town (Roundabout Number 4).
On Wednesday, 31 August, unauthorized demonstrations are likely to occur near Seef.
On Thursday, 1 September, unauthorized demonstrations are likely to occur in Nuaim, Ras Ramman, Sanabis, Diah, and Karbabad.
On Friday, 2 September, unauthorized demonstrations are likely to occur throughout Manama in an attempt to return to Farooq Junction (aka Pearl Roundabout or GCC Circle).

Tock and others can you keep us upto date with what is going on out their, will be back on Thursday 10am.
Thanks guys.

The UK embassy facebook page rarely has anything on it these days of any consequence. Has been hijacked by the protesters and their white supporters. Wouldnt rely on it for anything. The GDN is playing the game with reporting some incidents.

Wont be seeing your side of the island for a while as doing hospital runs twice daily between Sar and Awali none of which is in the red zone. Lots of fresh burning and rock throwing around sar last night but all small scale stuff. I wouldnt worry much, nothing is going happen but if I see anything I will let you know

Hi Mark

teenage boy from Sitra died this morning after head injury allegedly from tear gas cannister fired at his head. Cause denied by the police who have offered reward for information. Access to villages around Sitra restricted

Couple of gas bottle bombs gone off Bani Jamrah way this evening. Helicopters back in the sky above Saar

Shopping in the Malls is unaffected so Bh is, back to normal

Welcome home mate

Off to do a tour of the island now

Janabiya to Awali

Awali to Geant

Geant to Gulf liquor store and then back to the tranquility of the Green Zone. Lets see if there are any signs remaining of problems. If anything of note will post later. If not then business as usual

Everything is fine and dandy this morning out and about. Less Police than usual in Riffa and only car at the poling station. Only one officer at Geant and he was chilled out. No officers on the side steets.
Good traffic movement through the city.
No evidence of anything significant in Saar

Looks like its fine for a Peri Peri coated, beer can up the backside chicken on the braai again

By the way does anyone know where that stocks a decent selection of HP printer cartridges. I made the mistake of buying a super cheap HP copier/scanner at Geant for 18 bucks a couple of months ago when on offer and the cartridge has emptied in no time. Geant have no stocks of the cheapy cartridges and couldnt tell me when they were due in so if anyone has seen them in the shops somewhere else then please let me know. Its the 121 by the way, I think

We have a similar HP printer - Carrefour at City Centre should do the trick mate.
