Re: Day Of Rage In Bahrain Demonstration
don't know mate. no explanation was given to the ones i heard about, but i suspect it must be related to hezbollah in some way. maybe the government have discovered something related to some hezbollah trying to influence things and decided to get rid of all lebanese instead of investigating who is what.. seems a bit harsh though doesn't it.

Seems like this is an unrelenting crackdown which can't have good consequences. This can only lead to militancy.

Being that the NYT is basically run by NY Jews, I would think it would be in there best interest to make this into a Iran/Hezbollah thing. Obviously they are not so it gives them some credibility..

A Bahraini woman who witnessed her father, a well-known human rights activist, being seized by masked soldiers, beaten unconscious and then taken into custody, has told the Guardian that she is willing to die on hunger strike unless he is released.
Zainab al-Khawaja, 27, will today enter her fourth day without food in protest at the violent arrest and subsequent disappearance of the outspoken dissident Abdulhadi al-Khawaja, 50, along with her husband and brother-in-law.

Re: Day Of Rage In Bahrain Demonstration
The US embassy in the capital Manama on 14 April issued an advisory indicating that a demonstration was planned from 15.30 (local time) on the following day in the vicinity of the City Centre Mall
Not sure how this can actually happen with the military presence in the area

Re: Day Of Rage In Bahrain Demonstration
Bahrain is braced for a fresh bout of violent repression as new arrests and the alleged death of a female student fuel sectarian tensions in the tiny Gulf state.
Armoured vehicles and security forces were reported to be gathering in the streets of the capital, Manama, and in surrounding suburbs and villages.
Meanwhile, evidence has emerged that Saudi forces have been involved in violence against the opposition in the mainly Shia villages and suburbs around Manama. In a graphic eyewitness account of the repression given to the Observer, a Bahraini who has been caught up in the violence claimed that officers with Saudi accents, in plainclothes but armed with automatic weapons, had led attacks on members of the Shia opposition on several occasions over the past month.

The thing with the reports like the "eyewitness" account is firstly that we have no idea if the person is an eyewitness or not, and secondly that it is in the interest of those being cracked down upon to claim saudi soldiers are involved in harrassing them. I am not saying the article is entirely untrue, only that it may be a case of the journalist having been misled. It is very difficult to know for certain.
Regarding the young woman who died I'm going to ask one of the guys at my compound who teaches at Bahrain University (and was there during the clashes last month) if he has any idea what actually happened. I am not convinced this is as straightforward as it is claimed (even the article says it is not clear what actually happened). I remember reading previously that a woman was hurt in a car crash when trying to get away (could it be her?)
