Civil Engineering Undergraduate
Hi all, I got to say this is a great site.. I just would like to know if anyone knows of any companies that offer internships or a summer placement in the middle east?.. As I am studying civil engineering, and just want to get bit of more experience out abroad..

Best bet is to do something like that with a big name in the UK.
Think;
Balfours
Carillion
LOR
Costain
Skanska
etc
OR
Mace
T&T
EC Harris
F&G
Aecom
etc

Trouble is even if I don't pay you a salary, you will cost me more than a third country national graduate (you would probably be more useful). If you find your way to Qatar and you want to work for nothing on a very interesting major project I have a desk !

even if you are not paid a salary you are still being paid something, as you will have to find accommodation and feed yourself and you will also cost the company to sponsor you, and medical insurance etc.

A few years back, a mate got a internship in Bahrain, but then again it was with architects firm and I think only because his dad used to work there before and was friends with the owners.
A lot of these things are down to who you know anyway, so good luck.

As an ex Soils, I only got summer internships (paid & overseas) because I'd done my "gap" with the company and had a potentially long term future with them so they were willing to invest in giving me that experience.
Your best bet is to try and get a relationship going with a firm in the UK first, and take it from there.
By the way "client" pays much much better than "contractor".

We have used Masters students in the past to do some of the leg work in the field, however, they were Geologists so rather more specialised.
Try looking on the Halcrow or CH2M Hill websites. They are one of the same now but one may have better Mid East links available.
If not PM me and I will send you my email addy and you can send over a CV and covering letter which I can pass on.
