Re: Calling any British Asian expats moving to Dubai
Hi there! Is this ur first time in the Emirates? .. U and ur wife will really love it... settling in wont take long and u will make lots of friends ....if it is ur first time,I empathise with ur nervousness.. I'm lucky that I lived in Dubs before so I'm thrilled Im going back!
I'm in Education so am moving over due to my new teaching position....in fact Im out there next week- need to meet my new school and colleagues so really looking forward to it..how about you guys...?....!!
Hope u get ur accommodation sorted as I know it can be really a worry... hopefully if your company is offering a relocation package, they will support u in this.....so glad that someone finally responded to my thread !!!!

On a side note there was an interesting article in the local paper of my home town. It seems there was a bit of a kerfuffle because some one was advertising for house mates, but the advert contained the words "Pakistani families only". Racist or not?

I completely disagree--and this coming from someone whose sms's are fully punctuated, capitalised where appropriate, and contain no abbreviations. But this is an informal forum, and the poster was using informal English. She got her message across, and grammatically it was probably correct. All her pupils / students will be texting in a similar manner. There's nothing to suggest that when she writes formally that she'd use the same format. I really don't see the issue.

I would say the thread subject is quite sensible as I am pretty sure British Asians will face advantages/difficulties that white British would not face.

I'd assumed that was the rather obvious point of it, and clearly you're right.
But of course Norm has to post a load of defensive crap about "no such thing as hyphenated Britons" across yet another thread, missing the point spectacularly.

I like the term BrIndian. There's no hyphen and it sounds nice.
