Blank cheques
If I have to submit 12 months of blank cheques should I :-
a) Enter the amount monthly to be paid
b) Sign the cheque
I would not be paying by cheque (out of this account) but by cash each month from another account

Re: Blank cheques
if you don't sign the cheque then it is pretty useless anyway.

Re: Blank cheques
But if you leave it open then are you not potentially opening up a chance of abuse if the cheque gets into the wrong hands ???

take a deep breath and start from the begining and let's figure out why it is you need to consider giving strangers pages from you chequebook...

Re: Blank cheques
You certainly wouldn't catch me giving anybody outside my direct family one blank cheque let alone twelve of them...don't you normally just post-date them individually so they can only be cashed when the relevent month end is reached?

Re: Blank cheques
Car Hire company, if I take out years lease (much cheaper) then although I pay cash monthly they wish me to pre date 12 cheques, Cheque book is from a different account (which I don't use often) but then again I guess I could transfer my wages into that one and pay monthly by cheque so in the end all would be okay if the cheques were pre dated, set amount entered and signed....
Really shouldn't have asked this question, should I ???

Re: Blank cheques
i suppose a standing order or internet payment every month is out of the question?

You can always cancel the cheques later if needs be.

Re: Blank cheques
Just another angle - if they do try and cash a cheque and there is no money in the account then this may be a criminal offence and you can be in deep shit.
My advice is to give them the predated cheques if you must and let them use them. Seems simpler. Even more so is standing order.
Or a taxi.

Re: Blank cheques
I recall a case where someone tried to settle his tax bill by writing a cheque on a cow. I suspect that you ought to get 12 camels...

Re: Blank cheques
Standing Order - not recommended unless it is an account to account transfer within the same bank, otherwise you'd end up paying 60-80 dhs for each wire transfer.
Best to write out post dated cheques for the exact amount and date, and make sure you're account is funded on that date.
Do NOT give a hire company a blank cheque!

Re: Blank cheques
write the 12 cheques in full; so 12 different dates (each month of the lease), payee filled in, value written in full text & numeric, and signed.
Then rather than giving the lease company cash, pay the cash each month into the bank account where the cheques are from each month. Saves giving cheques that may not be used.
That way the company could only get 12 cheques worth out of you, not 12 months cash and a cheque you forgot to cancel (which there will be a charge for anyway)
