Default Banking role in Doha

Hi,

Any western bankers that have recently relocated or have been living in Doha? I would be really interested to hear about your experience working in the Qatari Banking sector - specifically in Capital Markets risk (Market, Liquidity…etc).

I am currently a Market Risk Director in London and have recently been exploring the possibility of relocating to Doha. I currently have a relatively good salary and the wife is also well paid.

We would not consider moving for anything less than an all in £160K + standard benefits as that would be a step down for us given the risks.

What are the chances to land a senior manager/director role with that salary in banking?

Thanks

Does the figure of 160k GBP includes your partner's income as well? It comes to around 60k QAR per month package, which I believe at your level should be feasible. However, standard benefits like housing and education have gradually been phased out in the Qatar and most financial institutions now offer a lump sum.

Thanks! The GBP 160k is just my income excluding my partner. Would the QAR 60k be an all-in amount or would there be housing or schooling benefits on top of that? Any idea the typical basic % of total income? How is the work culture like?

I think in that case, you should consider the fact that finding a job for your spouse might not as likely as in London. I cannot comment about specific firms but I have seen more an more firms moving towards a lump sum basis and no additional allowances i.e. 60k is all in. They will usually structure as something around 35k-40k being the basic and rest being housing and transport allowance.
