Thats exactly right Malt, I'm sure Boomerang was a beginner once and is trying to pass on his experiences. AP - I take it you have no long term plan then - or maybe once you do find a job you are happy to be a career F/o for the rest of your days. Most pilots I know have been and are only too happy to pass on their knowledge to an enthusiastic student, get paid and benefit themselves at the same time   |

Most pilots I know have been and are only too happy to pass on their knowledge to an enthusiastic student, get paid and benefit themselves at the same time   But...of course... I could be wrong. Most of my ex classmates got their first job within weeks after coming back home (we were students in the US) cuz they got hooked up or knew somebody who knew somebody. As a matter of fact none of them went for instruction and thank God none of us did. Three months later guess what happened ??? The world trade center collapsed? And guess what happened next? Foreign student pilots like us became legitimate tragets. Classmates we had never finished their training and got sent on the first plane back to their countries if they were lucky. If not, they ended up spending weeks in custody until they were cleared to go back home. Aaaand, guess what? You'll never guess! Come one on guess again!... I have a US license and I am not legal to work there... so please Fairydust, let's be positive  If you're a woman with a US citizenship, would you marry me so I can get a work permit and build flight time? But I'm sure you're not so ... oh hell no ! Don't even think about it!!!... But if you happen to have a daughter in her twenties like me (now you know approximately how old I am ;) ) and who would share her US citizenship with me, then fine! Let's get married !!! Oh oops hold on... I'm already happily married. Damn! too bad :( Let me guess Fairydust. Are u writing on this thread to advise me? If that's the case, then thanx a lot; but I still wonder how you can manage to know if I want to be a career F/O for the rest of my life and that I have no long term plans. I don't know I'm just confused  But of course ... I could be wrong. |

But of course ... I could be wrong. What I am trying to say is that surely for someone in your position, a job in the aviation industry, regardless of what it is, is a stepping stone to better things. Sometimes its best to enter via the back door than just keep trying the front, ie there are lots of cabin crew who hold a CPL and use their salaries to continue hour building. By career F/o I meant have you no ambitions to one day perhaps become a training captain Anyway at the end of the day the choice is yours |

Anyway at the end of the day the choice is yours[/QUOTE]
Really ? I appreciate you advsing posts Fairydust. I say it again, I do want to build time. I'd fly anything that has wings and this is why I opened this thread so I could be advised. There are plenty of small charter companies that fly single engine cessnas up to jiz jets and airliners all over the UAE. I have thier names and adresses but they're unreachable form here cuz they don't have websites and phone calls have proved to be a waste of money and time. If someone out here knows how to find somehting to build time in the UAE I'll take it. I'm fluent in French English and Arabic so relocating won't be an issue. I never said I want to show up at Emirates' front desk and say : "Hey what's up fellas! You'll never guess what I came for ! ... I have a CPL with no previous experience but I will kindly ask you to put me on a 777! ... " Please! I do not know why y'all incist on the fact that I want to jump on the big jets. Others did and I wish I could but I can't. So I'll fly smaller airplanes for some time and build time like most people do. |
Re: Aviation
Fairydust,
There is no point, he just doesnt want to accept anything anyone says and then he wonders why after sending so many CVs out and phone calls and so on he doesnt get a chance or no one looks at him aviation wise. I admit i might have gone over the top in one occasion during my replies and for that i apologise but it is frustrating trying to help someone who just doesnt give a damn and doesn't want to listen, so for that i lost all my interest in helping him or giving him any leads, because in this industry sometimes its who you know that helps. Pedro Exactly and the aviation industry is a small world - it has backfired on my hubby a couple of times when he has recommended someone for a job that has subsequently turned out to be unsuitable  |
Re: Aviation
Why are u saying I don't accept anything Boomerang? When did u try to help me and I refused? Come on man! Do u think I'd bite a helping hand?
You came to this post wondering what I was doing in aviation and that if I couldn't be a CFI then there's no point in being a pilot. You knew nothing, asked for no clarification but still had enough time to be judgemental. If u got something to suggest bring it on. Where can I be a CFI with a US license? Surely not in America for I'm not even legal to work there. Don't be condemning people so quickly Boomerang. Again you brought anything but a helping hand. And if you question my CRM skills ... I know you're not talking  I'm not in a cockpit right now so pardon me if I'm not using my CRM skills. :p Fairydust, I know you're not mad at me are you ? |

I really like this forum and I did not come to have enemies or hurt people's feelings, especially not people who intend to advise. |
Re: Aviation
Ooh this is scary, straying into the ME forum  however, just to put my five eggs into this one......
AP, you have a Commercial FAA licence, but can't get work in the US, is that correct? Well, maybe this is a daft suggestion but have you considered looking into courses to convert the FAA licence to JAA? That would give you more hours and experience, for a start, and probably open more doors to you. As for the instructor route, noone is suggesting you become a CFI straight away, or even be a fulltime instructor, but the training would certainly be good for CRM skills, would give you a few more hours, and once trained you can build your hours while doing some teaching, as you well know. Having spent many hours in the company of flying instructors at all levels, they all share the same view - learning to instruct is very valuable for CRM skills. If you can work with a student who can't fly straight and level, or can't get the knack of landing, you learn so many skills that will help you work with a fellow pilot in that elusive airliner cockpit. Not so long ago, in the UK at least, virutally the only way in to airline jobs was by building hours, and almost every pilot went by the instructor route. Never did them any harm. Get yourself a JAA conversion and work your way up........ :) (thanks for letting me get that off my chest, and now back to the land of Aus....!!) |

Have you given up on the ME then, looking further afield..... I was about to enroll for a JAA conversion course with London Met and Stapleford but ... the training costs would go up to 22000€ with the housing expenses (and I looked for the cheapest ...£90 P/W) without food costs. Furthermore, I wouldn't get that much experience. Most of the training would have been the theory (6 months) and 10 to 20 hours of flight training. If I had that money (22000€) I'd rafther spend it on buying a block of hours. |
