Default Aramco and the quest for pay slips

Hi everyone,

I've passed the interviews and I've received an email congratulating me on passing their tests and interviews. They've informed me that once the submitted paperwork checks out then they'll make a formal offer to me. However, they're insisting on me to provide them with pay slips for the last 3 months which I've refused to do so.

I've asked them for a written email justifying why they want those pay slips as it contains personal information which is private. If it's a case of proving my employment then I can get them a reference. However, I suspect the real reason is that I've read is that they want to match my current salary with a little extra on top.

What are other people's experience in applying for roles in Saudi Arabia from the UK especially with Aramco? Did people give their pay slips or not? What happened if you didn't give it?

Are you working for them? Assuming you’re working for them: did you give them a copy of your pay slips when you left the UK?

Ive told them no, they can’t have it and I want to know why they want it.

I don't work for them, but all employers here ask for 3 months pay slips. I originally came out for a large American engineering consultancy. They wanted them. I have since moved to a pif project, they wanted them.

It's standard procedure in the GCC as far as I gather.

The only reason will be to understand your current salary. Their offers will be current salary + expat premium.

Cheers. I gathered it was a standard practice but not in the UK which is why I'm asking them what the purpose is. I will push back on that. Happy to give up the role because the place I work at in the UK will not give pay slip information especially to foreign entities.

Thank you. I thought as much. Which means I will push back and have it written in writing first before I send it to my employer.

Standard - otherwise people will just make up the salaries that their offer is based on. It's also common in the UK these days, certainly not unusual to be asked. Redact the personal information if you are that worried, it will only be the number they are looking for.

I've never been once asked for my pay slips in the UK in over 20 years of working and I've changed many roles. I've asked them for a justification via email for why they want it. If they want to price match then there really is no point in me accepting it as I'm quite happy turning it down.

Ta.

I've been asked in the UK. It's becoming more common, it doesn't mean it happens all the time.

Loads of stuff from people on here on how offers work. For many a 20% uplift on a UK salary is fine given the tax free status but others think otherwise. If it doesn't work for you it doesn't work but it's certainly the formula used across PIF companies for the past few years.

Ive never experienced it in the UK. Aramco have said that without the pay slip, we may have to withdraw the offer. I’ve told them that’s fine but you’re not getting the pay slip until you tell me why.

Thank you for your responses.

Yep, as said above, it's standard. The offer will be for your current salary + x% , and they need to see payslips as proof of that.

Your own your payslip, you don't need the companies permission to share it with anyone. It's no different to you being asked for it for other purposes i.e. a mortgage application, or life insurance.

Ta. I'm just ignoring them now after they said they'll withdraw the offer if I don't provide the pay slips. It's not worth it if they're going to match it and add a bit on top.

Good decision. Not sure you would last long with such confrontation over a payslip !!! :-))

I can carry on as long as I need to At the end of the day I'm not at a loss. If they're going to price match then I can make more money being in the UK (even after tax) so there really is no point accepting the role. They can do or say whatever they want but they're not getting my pay slips to price match.
