Default Arabic in Dubai

I have just, like yesterday, moved to Dubai and in my job I will be traveling around the Middle East. I would like to learn some basic Arabic to help me with this, does anyone know where a good place to find a tutor or have a recommendation they have used? Preferably one-on-one as opposed to a class at this stage.

Although any help much appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Ask about at your work. We had a chance to sign up for some Arabic classes here but I chose not to. Instead I bought one of the language CDs from Mall of Emirates... Been here a year and its still in the wrapping!

In the year we've been here, I've had no reason to learn any Arabic other than some phrases such as;

hello = "asalam-o-aleykum"
thank you = "shukran"
finished or enough = "khalas"
you're talking nonsense and wasting time = "halee walee"

(excuse spellings!)

I've had more reason to pick up some Urdu words more than Arabic to be honest, but obviously may be different for yourself if you are doing business travel in the region.

Hi,

Your best bet might be one of the schools, check with them if they offer private classes. Maybe visit www.dubizzle.com or www.expatriates.com

Heres some details off a website:
1
The Arabic Language Centre at the Dubai World Trade Centre offers courses at all levels, from beginner to advanced, including specialised courses aimed at employees working in particular industries (tourism, finance, medicine etc). Contact the Arabic Language Centre Coordinator on Tel: +971 4 3086036 Fax: +971 4 3064089 e-Mail: [email protected] for more information.
