Security clearance is tricky. Sometimes it gets done within couple of weeks and sometimes upto six months. Since you will be working for defense, it will be very thorough and tome consuming.
Good luck

Thanks a lot for a quick response. It has been 2 months now since the submission of the docs and still the reply is always “still in processâ€. I do not understand what are they checking as i have never been in the GCC apart from visit to Doha in 2016.
Do you have any ideas on the salaries offered ?
Thanks again
Sid

"it will be very thorough and tome consuming." Nonsense, for the first half, and correct for the second - these checks are not remotely thorough. If you are coming from overseas they have almost no ability to do what would be regarded as a thorough check elsewhere. But it will usually take a long time, and you won't ever get any update other than "in process" or "complete". Nor will they tell you,if you fail, why. 2 months to 6 months is usual - but that is nothing to do with thoroughness, and everything to do with bureaucracy. And if you told them that you have been to Doha since the embargo began then I would not be surprised if you never hear anything more - but maybe you'll be OK, there doesn't seem to be a stated policy.
"Do you have any ideas on the salaries offered ?" You'll have to give us a clue about the job. Are you the new CEO for UAE Raytheon? If so, congratulations and you will earn a lot. Or perhaps you have been offered the job of rifle cleaner in the local National Service battalion - in which case, AED1k per month if you are lucky.

Hi Archie159,
Thanks for the reply and info, as usual, your replies are precise and up to the point.
The only thing that HR advised me is that it takes from 1 to 3 months (standard reply, I guess).
I was in Doha in 2016 and the embargo began in July 2017, so I should be ok. In any case, i have declared that in the security form, just to be on the safe side and not to hide anything.
And no i am not the new CEO of Raytheon
The company is EDIC (Emirates Defense Industries). I have tried searching the forums, but haven't found anything and also on Google, apart from few reviews from Glassdoor. Is it possible that you could message me in private so that I can discuss more?
And any clue on salaries etc? And they haven't offered me anything yet as they say first security clearance and then we can offer.
Thank you very much
Ciao

EDIC is a conglomerate of companies covering a wide range of defence-related businesses, and jobs there will range from very high paying senior executive slots down to lowly manual labourers. There is a lot of downward pressure on salaries for expats working in the semi-govt defence sector, so don't listen to anyone who quotes you packages based upon experience from even 2-3 years ago. I have quite senior US friends who have recently re-signed contracts (after an end of contract short break home) at half their previous salary - albeit they were grossly overpaid previously. If you can give a clue about the level and type of position (director, VP, manager, analyst, expert, aircraft maintainer - anything) I might or might not be able to suggest a salary. Do you have degrees/masters/phds? Or some other niche and desired skill? But in all honesty you are better waiting for them to tell you. I am a little too out of date.
What I have found sometimes works is to politely email them and request a potential range of salaries (likely min to max) - explain you don't want to waste their time doing all this admin only to find out 4 months later that the job was never going to offer a suitable salary to tempt you out of Italy. I've seen that before - people hanging on for ages only to find that the package was never going to be attractive. You could claim that you have been approached about a possible alternative job (somewhere else altogether) and will need a clue about this one to decide on whether it is worth waiting. But all this will depend upon what sort of background you have, and what sort of job you are chasing - the more lowly the job the less likely this approach will work (as they'll assume they can easily replace you if you lose interest). If they think they genuinely might want you then they might give you an indication.

The role is that of the specialist. I am an Electronics Engineer with a Masters in IT and also a Masters in Business. Yes, i do have niche skills and it was them who contacted me. And plus i will be the first in the company to do that work, is what they have advised me during the interview.
Yeah i thought of asking them politely, but during the interview stage, they told me they cannot tell me anything before the security clearance comes.
