Doha Package Stuff
Good day all.
I've been asked to think of a number for a package in Doha. I have a few questions for the eminent good folk of this forum:
- Is QAR 8,400 per month accommodation allowance okay for a single bloke, and what will it get, realistically? Bearing in mind that I'm from South Yorkshire so I'm not that fussy. Or would the hotel alternative being offered be a better bet instead? Presuming that the hotel is something half-decent and not a work camp tent in the Travelodge car park.
- They are not offering health (or any other) insurance on top so I need to factor this into the lump sum. What would be a reasonable figure p.a. for a 48 year old fella in good general health, do you think?
- How many flights home per year (single status) are normal for a role in the QAR 55k-65k-basic-salary ballpark?
- Are end-of-service/year gratuities usual in Qatar or is the trend towards lump sum contracts? (I'm on lump sum at the mo in the UAE, hence the question.)
Thank you very much.

Hi, I have worked in Qatar as a teacher for nearly 2 years. My accommodation allowance was 5500qar as a single, utility 400. So I had an allowance of nearly 6000. I took the schools 1 bed accommodation as the apartments were of a good standard. However I know friends who took this allowance and got their own apartment. This was sufficient amount for a 1 bed.
I have no idea about how much health insurance would cost as this was included in my offer. But yeah best to search this more.
