£29K per annum...how much can I expect to save from that?
Hi All,
Have been offered a classroom teacher position in an international school...salary is £29k. Usual perks...free accom, utilities etc along with this. Can anyone give me an Idea what I can expect to save from this?
Many Thanks.

You will save the balance of what you don't spend.

Put it the other way round - in the UK, what would you have to earn gross to have 29k left after paying income tax, NI, rent, bills, etc? And would that seem to be a decent salary? Yes.

And before someone jumps in with "Oh, but Dubai's / Abu Dhabi's sooo expensive": its only as expensive as you make it. You could live here more cheaply than in the UK--just depends what you're in to. And exactly as Dean says: GBP 2,400 pcm of entirely disposable income (except for the pension bit)--you'd probably have to be earning the best part of £100k to realise that in the UK.

Sounds like the salary will be about 15K AED a month.
The one big expense you will probably have is a car, if you can or want to drive here. This can cost upwards of 2K AED a month for a Nissan Sunny or the likes. You can live very frugally here, but the obvious problem may be the bright lights and expensive nights out in Dubai/Abu Dhabi.
I live in Al Ain so there is not much to do here, and some months I can get by on as little as 2000 - 2500 AED. I just send the rest of my salary back to the UK when the exchange rate is good. I dont pay for my car though!
