Default Voting..???

This may seem a wierd question to ask but does anyone know if as a new resident in the US (CR1) i am allowed to vote.

I recently received a voters card (after getting my US driving licence) and actually went to vote in the elections today, BUT my husband is convinced a mistake has been made and that only US citizens are permitted to vote.

Hmm.....am i legal or should i go into hiding?!!

Only US citizens are allowed to vote.

Your husband is right.
To get a voter card, you would have to register to vote, and on the
registration form it states pretty clearly that you have to be a US citizen
(at least here in CA).
If you voted illegally, you may actually be in a lot of trouble.

Any person who registers to vote knowing that such person does not possess
the qualification by law , who registers unde the name other than such
person's own name, or who knowingly gives false information in registering
shall be guilty of a felony

Better straighten it out quickly. tell them you did not realize it and give
back the card. You could go to jail when (not if) they eventually discover it.
Don't risk your future.

It is illegal but I can understand hoe it might happen. when I applied for an MA drivers license the form was not at all clear on the point. I knew I couldn't vote and didn't check the box; the woman at the counter raised this with me and asked if I wanted her to check the box for me!
As I say, I knew the law and said so - someone else could easily have been persuaded to register illegally.

To conclude it, I went with my wife when she went to vote, as she picked up the ballot the guy, not unreasonably, asked my name as well. I replied that I was British and thus couldn't vote - to which he replied "are you sure?"
