Travel Abroad While I-751 Is Pending
The time is coming for us to apply to remove conditions on my husband's green card. We plan to submit the I-751 at the first possible opportunity (90 days before green card expiration date) but understand that this can take over a year to adjudicate.
We travel abroad frequently so I'm wondering what to expect after the conditional green card expires and before a new one is issued. I understand he will get a letter confirming receipt of the I-751 and extending his conditional residency by 1 year.
I'd love to hear from those of you who have been through this about what we can expect/what you experienced
* Does he need to make an Infopass appointment for an I-551 stamp right away, or is this only needed after the letter expires (1 yr later)?
* We have Global Entry and he uses his green card on the Global Entry machines - will he still be able to use this after the green card expires? Will Global Entry be useful at all or are will he have to wait in line to see a border agent every time?
* Apart from Global Entry - should we expect to be given a hard time when re-entering the US or is this business as usual?

1- get an I-551 in the couple of months just before the card has been expired for one year, which is when the extension letter will cease to be valid. For the first year make sure you travel with the expired card and the letter.
2 - once card has expired, you can't use it for GE or any automated kiosk. Go right to a desk.
3- More often than not a quick trip to secondary to verify the letter/stamp/status but thats it - takes a few mins normally
