Can you apply for your SS number with the EAD? Or do I need to wait for my GC?

I was meant to have my interview this coming Tuesday (15th), however I got a letter in the mail today advising me that it had been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances and that any further actions would be notified in a separate letter.

What does this mean? A problem with my application or just one of the joys of dealing with USCIS? I hope the new interview isnt too far away since Ive waited so long for this one!

Yes

My wife got a phone call the morning of her interview, telling her that it was cancelled and would have to be re-scheduled. Unfortunately, we'd already left for the interview and didn't get the voice-message until we got back home after being told at the District Office that the case officer had called in sick.

Not likely.

Perhaps the guy's going on vacation.

I wouldn't expect a reschedule for several months.

I was told that they cancelled everybody's interview on this day..... I wonder what happened to cause that? I guess maybe thats why they managed to rebook it so quickly. This was the Dallas office

I knew why my Oath ceremony was cancelled in June 2004 (I think they used the term "descheduled"). It was former President Reagan's fault... because he died, and (then) President Bush declared June 11 as a National Day of Mourning. I received written notice of the cancellation on the 10th, and the Oath Ceremony was rescheduled for 2 weeks later. The thing is, I had no idea how long it was going to be before being rescheduled. Sometimes it's just a week or so... sometimes it's several months - usually depends on how busy they are and what stuff has already been scheduled.

Hi everybody,

just thought I would update everybody on whats happening with my journey.

well my Dec 9th interview was also cancelled, and rescheduled for Jan31st. So due to the delays and the fact I had promised my boss that I would return to work, I spent part of Dec and Jan working overseas. I came back in on the AP and found it to be a surprisingly simple process, I have to thank the CBP guys at DFW for being so efficient in getting me thru the system. I was only in secondary for barely 5mins.

So the countdown is on until my interview

Hi folks, just another update....my Green Card arrived in the mail yesterday

I had my interview on Jan 31st. It all went great except for my lawyer not turning up! Turns out she had not put it on her calender.

When we were called in for the interview we were in barely 10mins. We had a TON of evidence, bills, documents, pics, all going back years. So I guess doing the prep work really worked in our favor! While looking over it all he asked some basic questions like how did we meet and where/when did we get married. He then told us that he would approve it that day!

Thanks for all the support from the people on this board!

One last question... my SS card has the note printed on it that it can only be accepted for employment with documentation, will I get a new SS card sent to me without this? Or do I just use this one?

Congratulations!

You need to go back in person to the SS office. Fill out another SS application, show them your green card, and they will issue you a new SS card (same number) but without the work authorization legend on it.
