Return Flight vs One Way
Hi again. I hope this is my last question! We are about to book our flights to Toronto where we'll then enter the US via car at the Niagara Falls border. It's about 1/4 the price to book a round trip ticket vs a one way, so I plan to book a random return date with no intention of ever using it. Will this pose any issues for my husband, the UKC who will be converting to a LTR at Niagara Falls, as he'll have a return ticket in his name? Will they question if he's actually intending on settling? We'll have our job offer letters with start dates and proof of new address with us so should be clear we're settling in the US, but wanted to check before booking. Thanks again for all the help!

No issues. Both my wife and I did exactly this when we entered separately.

FYI the "Maple Leaf" train is operated jointly by Canadian National Railway and Amtrak. It starts in Toronto and ends in New York City with interim stops on the way. It picks up the US crew at Niagra Falls on the Canadian side and then stops at US DHS inspection just past the bridge. I took it last year and I was impressed with the DHS service [I watched as a matter of professional interest.]

Book the return leg as far in the future as you can. The further ahead you book, the more chance of the airline having to change the flight times, which may mean you end up with a bonus refund - because you could not possibly fit that revised time into your schedule, could you!?

Thanks for asking this. I had the same question! One way flights are ridiculous.
