Renewing EAD
I just realized that USCIS site tells to submit renewal application in 6 months in advance. I only have about 5 months left in my current one. Am I in trouble?
The way I understood I need to send:
I-765
2 photos (Why?)
Money order for $175
Photocopy of my current EAD card.
All that to Texas Service Center since I am in Florida.
Did I understand the instructions right?
Is E-filing an option?
What is my current status? I came here with K1 and have filed for AOS.

Yes, now would be the time to start filing for the EAD renewal. You have the correct documents listed, but everything now goes to the Chicago Lockbox address (see www.uscis.gov for the address). E-filing is also an option, yes. Your current status is "pending adjustment of status to permanent resident". Who knows why they request photos? None of them ever seem to be used for anything, as they will take another photo for the EAD card at the biometrics appointment. But, send the 2 photos, as it's required.
Best Wishes,

Timewise you are ok. I applied for renewal 5 months out (in April 05) and it was in hand in less than 3 months. If you have to wait more than 3 months you can get an interim EAD at the local office in time before the real one expires.
While waiting for my *first* EAD which ended up taking 5 months, I went to Tampa office (my local) for interim - I made an info pass appointment, then they took details and said come back on (wednesday?), as they give out the interims once a week. About a 100 people were there, and they do Photo/thumbprint/signature, Print it, laminate it, and off you go. It looks home made!
The EAD I waited 5 months for is valid till October 05 (a year from the date I applied ie it was 5 months old when i got it!!) The latest one is valid from Sept 05 ( a month BEFORE the current expires.) Go figure.
On top of that, I since got my AOS interview through, for September, so if that goes well, I don't even need the latest one. :-)
Cheers

Recall that the I-765 is used for more than one type of case -- not just
adjustment cases.
