Received my Green Card following Detroit AOS

Wooo-Hooo

Just under 3 weeks from my AOS interview, I received my Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) from good ol' Nebraska Service Center.

Last Thursday, I received a 'Welcome to the United States' letter from NSC - looks just like an NOA letter, which stated that I had been accepted as a Permanent Resident and should expect my Permanent Resident Card within 3 weeks.

Just 2 days later, and there's my card in the mail. I also received 2 more Welcome letters from NSC (posted separetely), just for good measure.

The card itself, as many have commented before, isn't green. It's off-white, with my ADIT photo (from the original I-129F petition), and fingerprint on it, along with DOB, Country of Birth, and a valid from/to date and my A#. The back is a cool kind of metallic brown hologram with all of the front details repeated in a small strip. The card back has a green strip stating Permanent Resident Card so I'm glad to see some kind of green-ness on the Green Card. As an aside, whilst researching something yesterday, we discovered that the USCIS refer to the Permanent Residence Card as Form I-551.

So this is the end of Phase 1 of the big immigration journey. Now, we can really forget it for 21 months. Overall, it has taken just under 11 months, from the filing of the I-129F petition last November to receiving the Permanent Resident card this week. Funny, it doesn't sound that long, although it has felt like an eternity, particularly through the NSC waiting period.

Thing1 and I feel for any of you going through NSC at the moment - we were looking at the Dave Hollis site earlier, and were amazed to see the average NSC approval rate running at about 200 days. Yikes.

Our case hit the dip when NSC approvals came down to 120-130 days so, in retrospect, we were pretty lucky.

Good luck to all of you wherever you are in the various stages of the immigration progress. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

... Now if only I could land a job...my new frustrating experience...

Here is our timeline :

Yeah!!!!!! Many congrats to you both and your USCIS break for a bit!!!!

I have a question, though...........why do they insist on having up-to-date adit pics when they just use the old one anyway?????? ;)

Congrats again!

congratulations thing one and two!!!!!
our Detroit AOS interview is Nov. 10th.
Would you be so kind as to give us a sneak preview as to what to expect at our
interview?

One question in particular. We submitted all our papers Aug. 8th, including
the I-864.Do we need to fill that all out again, notorize it, etc for the
interview? I'm asking because there is only three months between submission of
papers and interview.

Anyway, good luck and a great big fat juicy CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!

Also, being the nerds that we are, we determined that the top and bottom strips of the back of the card contain respectively, the presidents of the US and the 50 state flags, ordered by alphabetical order.

Re: Received my Green Card following Detroit AOS and PASSED my Michigan Driving Test

Thanks folks. It does feel damn good to have got this out of the way. I hope your AOS and green card experiences go just as smoothly. I empathise with those unfortunate enough to be waiting months/years just for the AOS interview. The inconsistency of this entire process sucks bigtime.

One other thing I just got out of the way is that I finally took and passed my Michigan driving test. I hated the entire experience - my examiner was a miserable old sod. I made 11 errors, 8 of which were 'speeding' at 27mph in a 25mph zone. Still, rules are rules I guess. I did however, PASS the test. I could have made another 14 errors and still pass.

Ha ha. Oh yeah. I never noticed. I can't believe you worked out it was alphabetical order. lol.

Hi Marian, our entire experience was posted here : http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...hreadid=178739 It's all very straightforward in Detroit.

As our experience shows, it wasn't necessary. We did however, print out another I-864 and get it notarized, just in case... We had spares of everything. We were just making sure, as other state's AOS experiences can be a lot more intense - see this one from Philadelphia posted the other day : http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...hreadid=183352 We were taking no chances.

Re: Received my Green Card following Detroit AOS

Marian - You do not need another I-864 for the interview. Unless your
financial circumstances have changed, there's no need for a new one -
the one you filed is only three months old! :-)

Regarding the interview, the only questions the interviewer asked us
back in January were my husband's parents' names, and then all the
questions on the I-485 about being a terrorist, etc. The agent went
through each and every one, and noted Serge's answers next on the I-485.
We did not have to show a single photo from the wedding, nothing
proving our relationship at all, no joint financial info, etc., although
we had a bunch of stuff with us. Good luck next month! Kristin

p.s. Congrats to the things for the greencard. Ours came less than three
weeks after my husband was approved, too. Nebraska does at least one
thing in a speedy fashion!
