AOS interview Experience (success) - Philadelphia :)
AOS interview Experience - Philadelphia (Adjustment of Status Interview)
October 2003 - LONG
Filed September 20th 2002 in person.
Recieved 'Application Notice of Receipt' on September 25th 2002.
Recieved final interview date letter, September 10th 2003
12 months from filing for AOS, to getting interview date, which was just
under a month later.
Callowhill, October 6th 2003, 1pm, room 300
Arrived at 12:30pm, with a line going around the corner. Used appointment
letter to get
straight in. Through security and up in the elevator to third floor, across
to room 300
(Same place as EAD was issued from). Hardly anyone there, only about three
other groups
of people. Handed appointment letter to reception desk, and was told to sit
and wait.
At 1:15pm was called in.
Walked in through one of the doors, and the interviewing officer introduced
himself, and
took two signatures and two fingerprints for the card. Went through to his
office, where
the interview began.
Here is the bit you probably want to know about....
Before we sat down we took an oath.
i. Requested paperwork was as follows..
Passport from me, birth cert and expired passport from US citizen (to
establish relevant
current citizenships)
Both original birth certificates.
Original I-129F (he kept this, and gave us back their copy)
Marriage certificate.
Copy of health insurance showing both names (print out from online account)
Print out of joint tax return.
ii. Things he said he would take as evidence as we were offering.
Two sheets of digital wedding images (no prob with them not being prints,
but we have no real prints as everything was done with digital cameras on
the day).
Affadavits of support from mother in law, brother in law, boss.
A letter of employment from the boss for BOTH of us.
Showed letters that had been redirected from UK to US.
Questions.
How many times had I visited?
Had I been here prior to visitng my finace? Why and Where?
(Showed old passport containing stamps, to verify my story)
Where was that previous visit?
Home phone number.
Mothers first name.
Fathers first name.
Standard 'are you a terrorist' type questions, to which you will probably
answer 'No' or at least I hope you would
Stamp issued, asked if we had any questions, and nothing more.
No medical form issues, as I have seen posted by others, in fact no mention
of that at all.
No personal questions.
No trick questions.
Interview could not have been more than 15 mins at most. Forgot to check
the time until
we hit the street again, and saw it was 1:40pm. The interviewing officer
was
businesslike and polite, but remained very focused. No trick questions, as
in fact I
could not remember which phone number we had given them originally (we have
more than one
at home). Also drew a blank on where it was I had travelled previously into
the country. Showed a copy of a letter I had sent to London embassy
correcting one of the forms I had
sent them, which indicated the location. The officer was able to verify all
this from
the paperwork he had in front of him.
The only seeming concern was that in the beginning the officer stated he
wanted to see
evidence of co-mingled finances. He must have said it quite a few times
without
realising it. Which lead me to think he was running from a script and just
wanted to get
through this. We explained we had none, as the social security
adiministration had
screwed up the process and still no number after a year! Consequently no
joint bank
accounts, no driving license, no deeds, not even a library card. This was I
thought
going to be the failing of it all. He seemed not bothered by it at all, and
just took what
evidence we had, issued the stamp and wished us well.
From what I could see, he was just checking off a list he had in front of
him, and most
of the paperwork listed here is merely what We OFFERED and not specifically
what he asked for.
As many others have said, if you are doing the K1 for it's legal intended
purpose then
you will have no trouble at all. Also as I have done, and other people have
said many
times over, take EVERYTHING you have, as it is better to have too much, than
NOT the one
thing they may want to see.

Re: AOS interview Experience (success) - Philadelphia :)
Congratulations, Kryss! I'm so happy for you and very grateful to you for
posting your Philly experience. We are still waiting for our EAD appointment
from Philadelphia and filed for AOS last July. Next week will be 90 days, and
we are concerned. All of the other things went smoothly..the filing, the
fingerprinting. Does anyone have any idea what the problem is that we didn't
receive any EAD info yet? Thanks...

Thanks for the experience. We're still at the very beginning of the process but eventually we will be using Philly as well for AOS. This was really nice to see. It's the first thread about Philly I've seen since reading the group. Could you post your over all time line start to finish? This would be helpful. Thanks again and congratulations!!!

Re: AOS interview Experience (success) - Philadelphia :)
Thanks
I applied for the EAD at the same time as the AOS (September 20th 2002), and
got the card in my hand on October 23rd 2002. So that was just one month
later.
Seems from what you say, it must be slower lately, I hope it's soon for
you..
