Questions before AOS interview in Atlanta
Hi,
Philip and I were married last year (November 2, 2002) and we sent our
paperwork to the Atlanta office November 5, 2002. We married while he was
here on visa waiver, not K-1.
We recently sent in his paperwork to renew his EAD and AP. We had 2 letters
from the INS in our mailbox yesterday. Much to our surprise, they were
appointment letters for fingerprinting (October 30) in Birmingham and our
AOS interview (November 21) in Atlanta.
We were shocked that our AOS appointment is going to be just 1 year and 2
weeks after we submitted our original paperwork. We thought the Atlanta
office was taking much longer. Now we feel totally unprepared and we have a
few questions that we are hoping someone in the group might know the answers
to.
Medical
We are in Huntsville, Alabama. Has anyone recently had the INS medical exam
done here? Can anyone recommend a doctor or clinic?
Fingerprint & AOS
Philip's fingerprint appointment is roughly 3 weeks before our AOS
interview. Will that be enough time for the results to come back? (Philip
is from the UK, I don't know if that will make any difference). If
everything is in order, is Atlanta issuing the 551 stamp the day of the AOS
interview, providing everything goes well at the interview? If the
fingerprint results aren't in but the interview goes well, I guess we would
have to go back at another time to get the 551 stamp. Will the INS office
give you an appointment for that, or do you just have to go over there and
wait in line?
And finally, if he doesn't get the 551 stamp because the fingerprint results
aren't in, what should be done about his AP and EAD? The AP expires at the
end of November and the EAD at the end of December.
Help with any of these questions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Duh. We were married and sent our paperwork to INS in November 2001. Sorry
for any confusion, Barbara
