How on earth does this all work????
Hi All,
After reading a few posts on here.. I'm completely lost My fiance and
I have recently applied for a fiance visa for me to enter the US to marry
her. We have recently received a Notice of Approval from INS in the US, and
I have contacted the consulate in sydney and they said they were sending me
out a "packet"... Which made me think the whole process was half over....
but from on here, some people are mentioning they are getting a 2nd NOA
letter..??? What's that for?? I would have thought that once that letter
was received, a similar message would be sent to the Sydney consulate, and
then in turn they would arrange an interview with me..? Is this correct? Or
am I completely wrong?
Any more information on the whole damn process would be good
Also, since the consulate is based in Sydney (Australia if I haven't
mentioned that before), does that mean I have to travel to Sydney for the
interview?
Thanks!
Michael

The problem is that people on this forum are applying for different visa's, not everyone is going for a k1.
What will happen with you is that the embassy will send you a packet 3 which contains a DS-230 (application for a visa), DS-2001 (also known as a OD-169 which is the readiness for interview) and an affadavit of support (which must be prepared for the interview).
Complete and send in the DS-230 straight away - this gives you a case number. When you have all the needed paperwork send in the DS-2001 and this will trigger an interview date.
Yes you will have to go to Sydney for your interview
Good Luck

Dont worry, once you get packet, things are just about over to get to the
states,
Later the fun begins, more documents and money to get AOS, Social Security
card,
Work authorization etc etc. But if you love your partner, all is worth it

Of course I love her She's amazing I wouldn't be going through all
this hell if it wasn't for her
Is there a website that we can get the process of our applications?

The K1 FAQ http://www.txdirect.net/users/mike38/k1faq.htm
As for the second NOA your USC fiancee has already received when she received her approval of the I-129F. Tell her to guard that paper as it is required when you file for adjustment of status after your marriage.

I don't know what you mean by "get the process of our applications" but
there are some websites out there to help you through the "process". I
believe there is now a website to check the "progress" of your applications.
You'll have to get that from someone else, because I forgot to save it the
last time I saw it.
Try this site for help during the process.

Re: How on earth does this all work????
FAQ site I gave you the link for will explain everything on the K-1 process.
Also you will receive packet #3 as some call it from the US Consulate which lists the documents you need to gather, your police clearance, medical, etc. as well as the I-134 Affidavit of Support from your fiancee. When you have everything you send the checklist back to the US Consulate and only then will they schedule your interview. Yes you will hve to travel to Sydney or Perth, whichever one is closer to you, and the one that was sent your approved I-129F.
Rete
BTW why didn't she go to Australia and marry you and file directly with the US Consulate for your I-130 Immediate Relative Petition instead of doing the K-1? You would have been married and here in the States within 2-3 months.

Here's a good link for the processing times from the various service
centers. Just click on the section of the country that applies to your
fiancee.

The First NOA is just a receipt of your petition and means they are
working on it. You should get a 2nd NOA when they have made a decision
on the case.
Good Luck!

Looong story She wanted a wedding which her family could attend, and her
grandmother is too old to fly the 13 hour flight to Australia (plus the rest
of them couldn't afford it...Qantas charge an arm and a leg to fly to
Australia, and my parents were thinking about one last "big holiday")...we
were thinking about coming to Australia for our honeymoon, but then found
out about the advance parole (sounds more like jail not moving countries!!
So that will have to be put on hold until later on.
Also, from reading about people's times on here for getting their NOA's, it
seems like most people have a 2-3 month wait between the 1st and 2nd NOA's.
Is this normally the case? It took us 15 business days for ours to be
approved?
