You don't need a SSN to open a bank account, just 2 forms of ID. I just
opened one with Wells Fargo and they said just to bring it in when I
have the number. No problems.

Thanks for your information and all the replies from other. I have
just double checked my passport and I did have the I94 slip, not the
whole form, but a slip attached beside my visa page. I didn't look
close enough. Thanks for the messages though.
Now I have a call from a bank and it seems that they will allow me to
open an account, just need to go to the branch by myself to get th
paperwork done.
Just one question, I do not know exactly what you mean by
'When you get into AOS you will need an EAD to get an SSN. You can
also get an SSN with an EAD'
Since you told me I could get SSN without a K1 visa now before I apply
AOS, then why would I apply for SSN again when I get into AOS? Sorry
for being dumb.

I have been looking the SSN website and trying to look for the
appropriate form. Is the form name SS5, Social Security Administration
(Application for the Social Security Card) correct?
Thanks wagner!

I've heard that Wells Fargo is immigrant friendly (actually even
undocumented immigrant friendly). I think that you can open a bank
account with just a mexican consular ID there.
But if you're not in the south-west of the US, Wells Fargo is no good.
You should also consider the commercial offers of the different banks
on top of the fact that they may require an SSN or not.

While you're in lawful K-1 status (i.e. within 90 days from entry), you
can apply for a SSN using the visa and the I-94 (and that constitutes
your work authorization - if your social security office is not aware
of that, bring the memo with you). You only need an EAD if you're past
those 90 days (i.e. your I-94 expired).
And yes, the SS-5 is the form you need to apply for a SSN.

A SSN is valid for life, so of you get it now, you do not need to apply
again later.
What I was saying is that if your only concern is to open a bank
account, you may do so without a SSN - but then, sooner or later you'll
need a SSN (e.g. your employer will request it). You can still request
it at the AOS stage using an EAD.

Yes, I now have a clearer picture. I also found this link from SS
online stating that K1 visa holder is allowed to work
http://ssa-custhelp.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/...5sJnBfcGFnZT0x
Hope the link works,
I am going to provide birth certificate and Canadian passport with K1
visa and I-94 pages. Of course the memo you suggested. I think I will
also include the above link as the backup. Just to clarify that the
memo link you posted, if you want to download it, it only show half the
page.
Have I included all documents?
Thanks all

Thanks I am going to apply for SSN very soon. However, when I start
I-485 application, if I already obtain SSN, do I still need to apply
for EAD, since the memo said I am eligible to work in the states?

You are only authorized to work for 90 days ... which is the validity period of the K-1 visa in your passport. After that you will either have to quit your job, take an unpaid leave of absence and/or work illegally. You cannot work between the 91st day and day you get the EAD you need to apply for when you file for AOS.
