Hi,
I finally got my K1 visa!!
Thanks for all the information you all have been giving.
I have some more questions about opening a bank account here. Do I
need to be a U.S. citizen in order to open a bank account in the
states? After my fiance and I get married, will that allow me to open
a bank account even when I am still on the process of AOS?
I start looking at the AOS I-485 application. I have a few questions
on that matter.
1. They said that I need form I-94 which is the Arrival -Departure
Record. I searched the USCIS website on form I-94, they said not
applicable to Canadian Citizen, however, the I-485 form does not
indicate that part. I am a candian, do I also need to provide I-94?
and how?
3. About the medical requirement for I-485, they said K1 visa holder
does not need the medical report done but only need to submit a
vaccination supplement, not the entire medical report, The visa
journey website said its form I-693A. I have searched on the internet,
but I can't find it. I still have the copy of my vaccination
documentation medical sheet done in Canada before I went to the K1
interview, but it said 'FOR USE IN CANADA ONLY', can I make a copy of
that instead?
2. Can I include EAD application and advanced parole I-131 application
all in I-485 package?
Thanks for your reply!

You do not need to be a citizen to open an account. They MAY want a
Social Security number, but that differs from bank to bank, it seems.

The I-94 is the form you fill out when you enter the U.S. It is given to
passengers on the airplane in most cases. I'm not sure about a Canadian.

You need proper identification to open a bank account (a passport with
a US visa should be enought). You will also need a social security
number in order to open an interest bearing account. While in theory
you don't need it to open a non-interest bearing account, the bank
would have additional paperwork, with which they may not be familiar -
so they may cause you problems.
If you don't already have a US SSN (social security number), you can
apply for one with your K-1 visa. Check www.ssa.gov
Canadians coming to the US as tourists are generally not being issued
an I-94. But as you enter with a K-1, you most likely will have it.
Just remember to fill in your part before going to the immigration
counter. You can see a sample form at
http://www.uscampus.com/arrive_usa/arrive_i94.htm . Btw, it does
specify "This form must be completed by all persons except [...]
Canadian Citizens visiting or in transit" - you will not be visiting or
in transit.
Regarding the vaccination supplement, I would suggest you to bring your
form 'FOR USE IN CANADA ONLY' to a USCIS designated civil surgeon and
he will issue you the form that you'll need for the AOS interview.
Yes, you can I include EAD application and advanced parole I-131
application with the I-485 package (I would have three small enveloppes
(marked I-765, I-131 and I-485) included in the bigger enveloppe that
you mail in)

Thanks Capt., about the vaccination supplement. I do have a copy of
vaccination documentation medical worksheet showing my immunization
record when I did the medical exam for K1 interview in Canada. Do I
need that sent with AOS? Or where can I do the vaccination supplement?

Yes, you are right. Now that I think about it, you can even open an
interest bearing account without an SSN - but in that case, the banks
withdraw 30% of it in the form of taxes (that you may get back when you
file an income tax return).
But again, added bureaucracy (with which they may not be familiar) may
cause some banks to be relucant to open an account without an SSN.

A USCIS designated civil surgeon will have the vaccination supplement.
You do not need to go there with a blank form - he has it.
The USCIS website used to have a designated civil surgeon locator, but
it is a mess since they redesigned it.
If you wait a few days, the website will hopefully be almost as good as
the previous one (once they'll have fixed the broken links)

Thanks for the valuable information. I now remember I was asked in the
immigration counter to complete I-94. However, the U.S. immigration
officer kept that form... so what can I do without it?
Where can I find USCIS civil surgeon in my area? And also when will be
the appropriate time to have that done? Like when I start mailling the
I-485, do I also need to get the fingerprint done and also the
vaccination supplementary done before I submit the I-485. I am asking
that because the more I read the posted messages in this newsgroup, the
more uncertainties arise.
Thanks again!!

Sorry I forgot to include this. I went to the SSN website ou sent me.
I am not sure if a K1 visa holder can apply it, because when I look up
the SSN for non citizen, it said only if you have a workling permit you
will be able to get one. In which section Shall I look?

I am not sure if a K1 visa holder can apply it, because when I look up
the SSN for non citizen, it said only if you have a workling permit you
will be able to get one. In which section Shall I look?

If you drive across you will not have an I-94 in your passport. You can ask for one, however, when you hand in the brown envelope. The cost is $6 US in US Currency. If you don't get one, not a problem. USCIS knows about Canadians and the special conditions regarding crossing the border.
Yes, you can use the vaccinnation record you received to mail with your I-485. However, you should see a USCIS panel physician for the supplement just before your interview and bring it to the interview.

Where can I find USCIS civil surgeon in my area?
And also when will be
the appropriate time to have that done? Like when I start mailling the
I-485, do I also need to get the fingerprint done and also the
vaccination supplementary done before I submit the I-485.

USCIS will notify you when to go for fingerprinting, after you submit the AOS package.

The officer keeps most of the form. However, the lower portion should
be stappled to your passport (if you look carefully, do you see it?) -
if not, just leave the I-94 blank in the I-485.
I got it, here is the civil surgeon locator:
http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/usc...0048f3d6a1RCRD
(beware not to break the link - click on the letter of your state)
Almost as good as on the old website (we used to be able to search by
zip code) ...
Btw, they may try to charge you for the full medical exam, insist that
you only want the vaccination supplement.
USCIS will schedule the figerprinting for you, you don't have to worry
about that.
You should try to send the vaccination supplement along with the I-485
(if not, it may delay the AOS if the issue a request for evidence ; or
it may not in which case you would just provide it at the interview)

Your K-1 visa (along with the I-94 ???) is your work permit ; no need
to provide additional documentation.
You may want to go to SSA with the following memo:
www.kamya.com/ssn/#memo ; if the officer still causes you problems, ask
to speak to a supervisor.
The problem seems to be that you need the I-94.
If you only need the SSN in order to open a bank account, just shop
around, until you find a bank which would allow you to open an account
without a SSN.
When you get into AOS, you'll need an EAD to get an SSN. You can also
get an SSN with an EAD.
