Question about marriage and ensuing AOS process
Hello,
My fiancee and I will soon be starting the long road that many of you
have already been through, and in an attempt to make the process as
manageable as possible, we thought we'd try to find out a bit in
advance how to handle some of our unique issues.
Our situation is that of a 7-year-old long-distance relationship. She
is the USC, and I am currenty an F-1 student. We live and attend
college in different states, but I will be graduating in Fall 2007 and
promptly moving in with her. After discussing this and our wedding
date, we arrived at the idea that perhaps it'd make sense for us to
get married sometime this Summer, so that we could file the paperwork
then and get a bit of a head start. I need to be able to work
immediately upon moving in together, and since EADs take something
like 3-4 months to process (i.e. exactly the length of one academic
semester), we figured that I should have it right when I can start
using it, and not sit around for another 3 months waiting for it to
arrive if we only get married next Winter. Is this sound?
What I'm wondering is--would there be any sort of problem with the
fact that immediately after our wedding and paperwork filling, we'll
return to our respective addresses in different states for another 3-4
months? I guess I'm not entirely clear on what the BCIS guidelines are
in terms of having to live together, and when. We never actually
resided at the same address before, seeing as most of our relationship
took place during our teenage years, but it is most certainly bona-
fide and I don't anticipate difficulty proving it during our
interview. Just a bit paranoid because this probably isn't the
standard marriage-based AOS scenario :/
We really want to make this work now that we're finally getting to the
point when we can. If anyone can think of anything we should be aware
of, given the situation (if it even matters), advice would be very
appreciated. Thank you!
