Default Question about AOS interview letter

When you get the letter stating your adjustment of status interview (based on a k-1 marriage), how far in advance do they give you notice? For example, will the letter say it's next week, or next month? We're in VA, I'm sure it's different from state to state.

Thanks

Juliet

Arlington sent me the fingerprint notice a couple of weeks prior to the
appointment (though with a explanation of when to show up if you couldn't
make it). My AOS interview notice was sent about three weeks prior - well,
that was the second one. I have no idea how far in advance they sent the
first interview notice since they sent it to my old address and I never got
it.

Some people have received notices the day before the interview! Some have
received them the day after

Andy.

If you don't receive the notice in time, or something happens like you are out of town the week the letter arrives or it gets lost in the mail...I wonder if they allow you to reschedule it?

How convenient!

They really should give you a fair warning. I mean, people DO go out of town (like someone else already mentioned). I thought the time I got from the London consulate was pretty fair: about 3 weeks. But yeah, it would definitely help if you can be prepared!

Juliet-

We got about 3 weeks notice on our interview. And yes, they will allow you to reschedule, we almost had too!

Arlington are pretty good about realizing that they screw up and I've never
heard of them giving people a hard time for rescheduling. Other offices seem
to think they are infalible or that you can keep people waiting about for
two years and then expect them to be free for any date they pick with no
real notice!

I rescheduled my interview when I never received the notice. I don't know
exactly how long they had kept it open after I failed to show. I went in
there in September to point out they had failed to act on the change of
address for my fingerprinting notice and they hadn't scheduled the interview
by then. I waited until the 20 month estimate they had originally given me
had elapsed which was in February and went in then. I never found when,
during that time, the interview had been schedule - all I knew was that it
had been.

Andy.

Hi,

We filed at the SF office and we received our notice on 11/4, which was dated 10/31 for our interview which is scheduled for 12/2.

Seems like all the offices might be different...perhaps while you're waiting you can get all your documents together so that you're ready when the time comes. GOOD LUCK and hope that time is soon
