no visas being issued in Haiti
The embassy in Haiti is closed due to the civil unrest in the country.

Visas won't be necessary. Get ready for people claiming asylum or refugee
status. Every time the natives in some Banana Republic start offing each
other the only place they can go to be safe is here. I guess in this case
going to the other side of the island to the Dominican Republic is out of
the question.

I don't know about a flood of refugees coming here, but they certainly can't
go to the Dominican Republic. There is already a huge problem with ilegal
Haitian immigration into the Dominican Republic. There had been calls to
set up refugee camps on the Dominican side of the border, but the Dominican
economy is already bad enough that it cannot support a flood of refugees
streaming across the border from Haiti.
