hiya all,
sorry i have'nt posted in a while busy life lol
hope all is well with you all..
i was'nt really sure on where to post this.. its not for me
its for 2 friends of mine.. here it is from start to present on
what is happening with them

Back in January 2006 she came over on holiday and to see if she would like the UK enough to apply for a working visa. A friend of hers offered to let her stay with him to save money on a hotel. She went back to Canada in February and applied for a working holiday visa, which allows her to be in the UK for 2 years but only work for 12 months. Her friend offered to let her live with him when she returned so she could save money on rent and other expenses. Her friendship progressed into a relationship and he proposed and she accepted. She became pregnant. Which was'nt planned and came as a surprise to both of them, They went in search of advice from the Citizen's Advice Bureau but they were not really able to help Them but told them to ask an immigration specialist. As much as they have looked they were not able to locate one and they can't afford a lawyer, They're just in search of answers to a few questions... like do they need any special permission to get married and if so what paperwork would they need?, i know all this is a little confusing i dont know if anyone will be able to help on this forum. I just thought i would ask just incase.

Thanks,
Kurt

If I'm reading this right, they want to get married in the UK yes?

Yoosun and I looked into getting married in the UK instead of Korea, with us both being Oz citizens. My sister asked around the relevant agencies in the UK and the upshot was there was no particular law stopping us from getting married, however no registry office could accept an application unless we'd been living in the UK for more than 12wks. Which puts you beyond a holiday visa into Fiance Visa Territory, and that comes with strings, and besides at that stage we did not want be away from work in Oz that long, so we went to Korea instead, then did the registry thing back here in Oz.

That was in 2004, so things may have changed.

What is his nationality (the father of the child)? Is he British or Canadian?

If Canadian, is he on a working holiday visa as well?

Why not call the local Registry Office to find out if they can legally wed in the UK?
