Re: N-400 Post your individual journey please!

Update: Last week I got an email saying I would get an RFE in the mail. Waiting to see what it is they want.

And then today I got my biometrics appointment in the mail. My appointment is set for February 2nd but I'll just show up early and hope they take me. They usually do.

They want biometrics... and now you've got your appointment letter.

Maggs, good luck to your son for tomorrow.

Thanks. He's excited and nervous for tomorrow. He wants to join the military as soon as he is a USC!

I am sure this has been asked many times before, but how long after the N-400 biometrics appointment have folks usually received the interview appointment letter? We haven't heard from USCIS after the biometric fingerprinting on Dec 8th.

Also, the online case status still shows the RFE needed (showing since Nov 16). I thought the RFE was probably for the biometrics and that is standard for everyone, but now that is obviously done but still no change in the case status :/

It was about 6-8 weeks for me, 2 months all told until the actual interview. Chicago office - they're all different.

You're well within minimums. Incidentally, I think someone on here has been a citizen for a few years and are still showing an RFE. Could be wrong but I remember something along those lines.

Me, probably. My online status still shows a pending adjustment of status, and I've been a USC since 2004.

The online updates are a highly unreliable system.

My son had his interview today in Chicago and passed no problem. His Oath Ceremony is on 24th Jan.

The only problem we had was getting through traffic in the taxi cab because there are quite a few roads closed in downtown Chicago for roadworks. So if anyone is going, get there early. We got to 101 Congress Pkwy Immigration building just on time but then there was an awful line for security to get into the building that took about 20 minutes to clear.

He's 26 now. He came on a K4 when IV's were taking 2 years to process, before even getting the green card, to start the 5 year wait .:)

Ian and Meauxna: Seriously? They call the biometrics an RFE? I don't remember getting an RFE for biometrics before, but this is good news.

Thanks guys!

Maggs: Congratulations!

Think about it for a moment... and think what an RFE actually is. An RFE means they need something that they don't have... in this case, your biometrics. :)

Applied on 8/24/2010 and did fingerprints on 9/24/2010. Received yellow letter dated 10/23/2010 recommending I bring driver's license to interview - but no date, and have heard nothing since. In NYC, should I be worried or is there anything I should/could do at this point?

Re: N-400 Post your individual journey please!

They asked my son to take his drivers license to his interview. He had the interview letter about 3 - 4 weeks after he received the letter telling him what documents to take. This is in Chicago, so I don't know how long it takes in New York, but as suggested, make an info pass appointment to find out what is happening. Good luck.

He has his oath ceremony tomorrow!! Yay!

I think I'm ready! filled the form in and just need to get the photos done. I have been putting this off for so long. I have been concerned that timelines would conflict with travel plans.

I am due to be away doing training in California for 2 weeks at the end of July, does this sound like a safe bet along with current processing times?

Thought I should mention - hubby received his US passport on Friday. It only took about a week and a half after he applied so they're really moving fast right now.

16/20 wks looks about the norm from start to finish, so june-ish you should be done if there's no hipcups on your application.:fingerscrossed:

Maybe even earlier. I applied in March last year and my oath ceremony was July 6th.

Different offices will have different times, but Chicago seemed pretty typical compared to others who applied at the same time as me.
