Default Marriage and Divorce questions

A few questions:
1. Is a US marriage legally binding in the UK?

2. What are the consequences of divorce for the US citizen? Is there
always a presumption of immigration fraud, or do they understand that
a marriage could just 'fail' on it's own?

Any answers to these questions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi:

1. The general Common Law rule on validity of marriage is that it will be recognized as valid if valid in the jurisdiction where the marriage was "celebrated."

2. The immigration law has a presumption in it that a marriage is for the purposes of obtaining a green card is the marriage takes place within two years BEFORE obtaining LPR, ***AND*** the divorce becomes FINAL less than two years after obtaining the green card. Note that this presumption is REBUTTABLE. Also, it applies only in the immigration law.
