Default LPR to Citizen - how long?

What is the typical length of time it takes to become a citizen from LPR? I am within the 90 days to my 3 years (US spouse) and am considering relocating to a separate State in the US. Would rather get the citizenship issue dealt with first before relocating to avoid expected complications. Much thanks for any input.

It depends on which State you are resident in.

I'm in New Jersey and the official timeline is currently 5 months at Newark.

You will be given a case number once they have received your application and you can track it online.

You can also look it up here for an estimate of processing times:

Seems to be about 6 months or so, from filing N-400 to attending oath ceremony.

One such complication, is that you must live in the district office's jurisdiction for 3 months prior to being allowed to file!

While you can file 90 days early, nothing significant is likely to happen until you pass the 3 year mark of being an LPR, except the biometric appointment. The status changes to in line for interview and interview assigned, often happen around the time you become eligible (3 yrs after LPR date) if you applied 90 days early. But it varies by office if your interview will happen within a month or more from your eligibility. The oath ceremony varies by location too. Some do same day oaths following a successful interview. Others may do monthly oath ceremonies, so you have to wait for the one a month off from your interview. We recently finished in 4.5 months with an 80ish day lead time prior to eligibility. Others I know who had been eligible for years, finished in a few days over 3 months, both waiting around a month after interview for the oath.

Hope that explains some of the time differences people experience.
