K1 Affidavit of Support - I134
I've got my interview at the London Embassy next Wednesday and have
all the paperwork ready.... or at least I hope I have
My fiance has completed the affidavit - the I134 - and it has been
notarised. She sent this to me along with a letter from her employers
stating how much she earns (well above the minimum) and one from her
bank stating how long she'd been with them, how much she had deposited
over the last 12 months and how much she currently has.
Along with her details I'll be providing my bank statements, etc etc.
Some of the threads I've read seem to indicate that she would also
need to supply 3 years worth of tax returns, bank statements etc etc.
We've followed what the Embassy have advised? Should I be concerned
that we don't have enough evidence?
Thanks in advance.

From memory, the US tax returns are specifically mentioned, but not
historic bank statements. You have the forms and instructions in front
of you - what do they say?

I was required to show 3 years of W2's and the bank statements. There is a
couple of pages of instructions that begins form I-134. It mentions there what
is needed to support the form. Also if/when you recieve your packet 3 read it
carefully. There may be further and/or contradicting instructions included in
it. For example...the form might say 3 years of W2's and packet 3 might call
for 5 years. In my experience most the information was there, I just had to
look carefully for it.

Dom,
We just got approved for the K1 visa through London last week. For the I-134, I gave my fiance the notarized I-134, bank letter, employer letter, bank statements, 3 years tax transcripts, 2003 W2s and recent paystubs. I'm not certain how closely they looked at the transcripts. From what my fiance said, all they wanted was the I-134, bank and employer letter, and also took the recent paystubs. I dont' think they even looked over the tax transcripts but I could be wrong. I believe the instructions for the I-134 does state to include 1 year of returns, unless you are self-employed then you have to include 3 years.
I would tell your fiancee to send you at least a copy of last years' tax return and W-2's. If your interview is next week, I don't think you'll have enough time to request transcripts from the IRS.
Don't sweat the interview too much. My fiance said it was a piece of cake!
G'luck!

Re: K1 Affidavit of Support - I134
Thanks for your replies (even the patronising ones)...
As I said, I did read the instructions carefully and here is what they
say -
To substantiate the information regarding income and resources the
sponsor should attached(sic) two or more of the following items to
the affidavit.
- notarized copies of his or her latest federal income tax return;
- a statement from his or her employer showing salary and the length
and permanency of employment;
- a statement from an officer of a bank regarding his or her account,
the date the account was opened and the present balance;
- any other evidence adequate to establish financial ability to carry
out his or her undertaking toward the applicant for what might be an
indefinite period of time.
So, although it does say that the latest tax return is required it is
only 1 out of the 4 things suggested. I have 2 out of the 4, so my
original question stands - are the tax returns actually needed??
Sorry of this sounds stroppy but I am just worried that I haven't got
everything.
I guess to be on the safe side I'll get her to Fed-Ex last years tax
return.
Thanks again.

Re: K1 Affidavit of Support - I134
I asked my fiance about this last night after reading your question. He said they may have glanced at the tax transcripts, however the only thing they kept was the I-134 itself and my bank letter. My tax transcripts were not notarized. I simply sent him the letters that the IRS sent me - they don't look official, but just like a letter/list. I felt it wasn't worth paying for the notarized ones from the IRS.
Even though the instructions do say to only include 2 of those listed, this is the bare minimum for documentation. It's always a good idea to be over-prepared rather than under. And to quote Mr. Udall, it's never a good idea to prepare a "bare bones" application. We included everthing we could possibly think of, even though it turned out to be a waste of time, it was helpful in relieving some of our worries.

Re: K1 Affidavit of Support - I134
I feel the same way so she's sending me a few more documents. It's
better to have a load of documents that we'll never use than not
having enough.
Thanks again all, your help and advice is most appreciated....
I'm still worrying myself even stupider about the interview though
